Sweetheart Mass and dinner reception
All married couples are cordially invited to the Sweetheart Mass and Dinner Reception on Thursday, February 14.  This fundraiser for the Holy Cross Roof will begin with Mass at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Chapel in Keuterville, followed immediately by a donation-only dinner at the Keuterville Hall - your choice of pork chop or chicken breast, complete with all the trimmings, wedding cake, and champagne.  Music will be provided throughout the evening, and a number of baskets will be available for sealed bids so you can find that "something special" for your Valentine’s sweetheart.  Childcare will be provided on-site, though the number of children cared for will be limited due to the amount of space available.  Reserve a spot for your children early to guarantee a stress-free, romantic night out with your spouse.  All couples are strongly encouraged to make their dinner reservations by Thursday, February 7 so we can order a suitable amount of food and help our cooks and set-up crew in planning for the evening.  A number of extra meals will be available for those couples who need to wait until later in the week to make their Valentine’s Day plans.  To make reservations (or offer your help with this event) please call Lynn Goeckner, 962-3133, Susan Wassmuth, 924-0048, or email us at holycrossroof@mtida.net. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a captivating evening in Keuterville!

Volunteers the lifeblood of the American Cancer Society Grangeville Relay For Life
Events the magnitude of the American Cancer Society Grangeville Relay For Life don’t just happen by accident. They are put on by individuals who generously donate their time and talents to make the event a success. This past year, the Grangeville Relay For Life saw 26 teams raise $63,000 for the Society and its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.
With a 2008 goal of 35 teams and $70,000, the Relay’s steering committee is already hard at work planning this summer’s fundraiser, which is scheduled for July 18-19, at Grangeville High School.
“We’ve set some pretty lofty goals for only our fourth year, but they are definitely reachable,” says Jody Hoogland, chair of the event. “However, to do so we will need a fully-staffed planning committee.”
Presently, the committee is seeking a co-chair to assist Jody and has volunteer committee openings in team development, logistics, photography and publicity. The committee is also seeking men, women and youngsters who may not wish to serve on the committee, but would like to volunteer in some other capacity leading up to and during the Relay.
“I know there are many people in the Grangeville area who have special talents we could use to plan and put on this event,” says Hoogland. “What most don’t realize is the sense of satisfaction they will receive from knowing those talents are helping in the fight to find a cure for this terrible disease.”
Anyone interested in serving on the American Cancer Society Grangeville Relay For Life planning committee or as a volunteer, should apply to Jody Hoogland at 983-0821, 983-5585 or by email at sunshinejo78@hotmail.com.

Ferdinand Home Makeover
For the Wayne Nida family of Ferdinand, the year 2007 was just one bad event after another.
Rising fuel prices have eaten into the profits of Nida’s semi-truck business. Which led to letting the family’s health insurance slide. Then their daughter Leslie was diagnosed with scoliosis and Wayne was diagnosed this past summer with Lymphatic cancer.
To add to the problems, one of Wayne’s trucks was involved in a head-on collision, which totaled the truck. The lady that hit the truck had no insurance.
And to top it off a remodel of their house was started early to make space for their growing children. Due to the costs from the other problems the remodel was abandoned which has left their home a hazard.
Extreme Home Makeover was contacted by friends of the family about helping but they aren’t taking any applications. So it was decided by community members to do their own Home Makeover, Ferdinand Edition.
