Pirates lose to Logos
The Prairie Pirates lost what turned out to be their final regular season home game as they fell to Logos 58-65 Thursday, Feb. 11 at Cottonwood.
The senior night game scheduled against Orofino on Monday, Feb. 15 was cancelled due to weather and road conditions by Orofino. Senior Night activities will now be held prior to Prairie’s first district game, which will be held at the PHS gym.
Logos scored first in the game as they hit a 3-pointer. Lane Schumacher answered for Prairie with a 3-pointer to tie it.
After a Logos free throw, Prairie took their first lead of the game on a basket by Cole Schlader.
After another Logos 3, Schlader tied it at 7 and then again at 9.
Logos then had a 0-5 run but a basket each by Zach Rambo and Schlader made it 13-14 at the end of the first quarter.
A steal by Schlader led to 2 free throws by him to open the second quarter for a 15-14 lead.
After a Logos basket, Rambo scored to make it 17-16 but that turned out to be Prairie’s final lead of the game. Logos outscored Prairie 6-14 the rest of the half and led by as many as 10 points before Schumacher closed out the half with a 3-point to make it 23-30.
Prairie got within 2 at 30-32 with a 7-2 run to open the third quarter. Rambo and Schlader each had a basket and Brody Hasselstrom had a 3-pointer.
The closest Prairie would get in the second half came later in the quarter when the Pirates finished off a 6-0 run to pull within 1 at 42-43. A basket each by Schlader and Rambo and 2 free throws by Schlader got them to that point.
Logos then closed out the third quarter with 2 free throws to make it 42-45 after 3.
Logos opened the fourth quarter scoring with a basket and Rambo responded. Logos then scored a 3-pointer and 2 free throws to push the lead to 8 at 44-52.
The closest Prairie would get the rest of the way was 4 points at 53-57 with 3:07 left. Logos then went 6 for 6 at the line against a free throw by Rambo to push their lead back to 9 at 54-63 with 1:28 left to play.
Rambo wound up with 25 points to lead the Pirates in scoring. Schlader scored 21 before fouling out with 2:46 to play. Schumacher scored 9 and Hasselstrom 3.
Logos had a 33-41 edge on the boards with Schlader leading the Pirates with 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Schlader and Tyler Wemhoff each had 3 steals and Schlader had 4 assists while Wyatt Ross had 3.
Prairie was 20 for 57 from the field, 35%, and 13 for 19 at the line, 68%. Logos was 20 for 48 from the field, 42%, and 17 for 25 at the line, 68%. Logos was 8 for 16 from 3-point range.
Prairie is now 9-3 in league play and 12-4 overall.
The JV team won their game 63-44. They led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter and 27-22 at the half. They took a 44-31 led into the fourth quarter.
