To the Library and Beyond
Library volunteers are eager to begin our move back into the basement of the Community Hall.  Many thanks to Mayor Holcomb and city government for the special labors by Hunter McWilliams who has been painting the walls.  We are very excited to return and grateful for every volunteer.
While we continue our month of recognition of American Red Cross, Music In Our Schools, National Nutrition, Read Across America, Women’s History and Youth Arts, we begin the week with official authorization for “wearin’ of the green” for Saint Patrick’s Day on Sunday 17 March.  Be sure to wear enough green to make yourself invisible to the leprechauns who will pinch you if they can see you – just “because they can.”
Two days later we have the First Day of Spring on Tuesday 19 March.  On Thursday, March 21 we observe World Poetry Day to “honor poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals, promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry, [encourage the use of poetry with other arts – theater, dance, music, painting – and make poetry more visible in the media].”  Who will accept a challenge to write a springtime poem to publish in the Chronicle?
In 2022 Prairie Community Library loaned 2,073 items.  January through September of 2023, volunteers served 1,735 visitors to the Library.
The volunteers who manage Prairie Community Library endeavor to maintain a basic and transparent operation.  We invite our patrons to recommend improvements to the organization’s direction, priorities and customer service when we reopen.
Many thanks to patrons who continue returning borrowed books.
Remember, you can volunteer to help move the Library back “home” by sending an email message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  Thank you all very much!
