Hospitals host 'Hands-On Health Care
Last week, St. Mary’s Health and Clearwater Valley Health once again partnered with the North Idaho Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and the University of Idaho School of Health and Medical Professions to host their annual Hands-On Healthcare Day—an event that continues to inspire and engage the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Students from across the region, including Orofino Jr/Sr High School, Kamiah High School, Grangeville High School, Prairie High School, Highland High School, and the Youth Challenge Academy, gathered for a full day of immersive, hands-on learning. The event brought together students from multiple communities, offering them a unique opportunity to explore potential healthcare careers in a real-world setting.
From the moment participants arrived, the atmosphere was filled with curiosity and enthusiasm. Throughout the day, students rotated through interactive stations, engaged directly with healthcare professionals, and gained valuable insight into the wide range of roles within the medical field.
Organizers say what set the day apart was not just the hands-on activities, but the meaningful connections formed between students and staff.
“Watching our team members share their passion, answer thoughtful questions, and mentor these students is incredibly rewarding,” noted the St. Mary’s Health staff. “These experiences are exactly why we continue to invest in opportunities like this.”
The success of the event was made possible through strong collaboration and support. St. Mary’s Health would like to express gratitude to AHEC, our participating staff members, all of the participating schools and their staff members, and the students themselves for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
As rural communities continue to face healthcare workforce challenges, events like Hands-On Healthcare Day play a critical role in building interest and awareness among local youth.
“The future of healthcare is bright, and we are incredibly fortunate to be part of helping build it right here in our communities.”
