Uhlenkott earns fifth place medal
Nick Uhlenkott earned a fifth place medal at the State Wrestling Meet held Feb. 26-28 at Pocatello.
Three of Prairie’s 5 wrestlers won in the first round of the tournament but all three lost in the second round.
At 145 lbs. Uhlenkott won by pin in the opening round in 1:41 over James Pollock of New Plymouth. In the second round he faced #1 seed Phillip Lesh of North Fremont and was pinned in just 15 seconds. In the consolation round he faced Erik McGreal of Potlatch and won by pin in 2:40. He then won a 17-2 technical fall over Levi Christiansen of Malad to clinch a medal. In the consolation semifinals he lost a touch 2-3 decision to Khris Karpati of New Plymouth. He earned a fifth place medal when Jeremiah Bunch of Kamiah had to forfeit.
Shane Poxleitner won his opening round match at 130 lbs. by 15-0 technical fall over Hagen Beckstead of Grace. In his second round match he lost by disqualification to A.J. Armstrong of North Fremont, who went on to take second place. In the consolation round Poxleitner won by pin in 2:38 over Scott Mays of Potlatch then was eliminated 1 match short of earning a medal by 2-7 decision to Preston Kent of Malad.
At 189 lbs. Alex Matson won his opening round match 12-7 over Brandon McKinlay of Firth. In the second round he lost by pin in 3:37 to Spencer Pulliam of Aberdeen. He was then eliminated in a close 5-6 decision by Tyler Hensley of Midvale.
First time state competitors Anthony Duman and Logan Lustig were both eliminated in two matches.
Duman lost by pin in 2:35 to Jesse Coats of Valley and then lost by pin in 3:13 to Andrew Sallee of Parma.
Lustig lost by pin in 19 seconds to #1 seed Tyrel Clark of North Fremont, who wound up second. And then lost by pin in 1:35 to Shaun McCarver of Potlatch.
Uhlenkott finishes the season with a 26-7 mark, Poxleitner at 22-8, Matson at 12-10, Lustig at 6-18 and Duman at 2-23.

Nick Uhlenkott had to wrestle in a mask after an eye socket injury in his second match. Shane Poxleitner had a good state tournament despite a questionable disqualification.
Alex Matson won one of his 3 matches at state but was very competitive in all of them. Logan Lustig competed at state but lost both matches.
Tony Duman was in trouble here but managed to take both his opponents into the second period before losing.
