Sonnen wins regional title
Tabitha Sonnen is the regional champion in the 100 meter hurdles and leads a contingent of 5 individuals and 3 relays to the State Track Meet set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 20-22 at Bronco Stadium in Boise.Tabitha Sonnen leads at the final barrier as she wins the 100 hurdles.
Sonnen won the 100 hurdles in 17.6 and also qualified in the 300 hurdles by placing fourth in 51.1.
Nicole Nida broke the school record in the 100 meter dash in the prelims on Friday with a 12.59 clocking and placed fourth in the final on Saturday in 13.1 to qualify for state.
Also qualifying for state with fourth place finishes were Allison Jones in the high jump at 4’4”, Briget Long in the pole vault at a school record height of 6’6” and J.D. Riener in the discus at 121’3”.
Three girls relay teams had to wait to find out if they were going as only the regional champion was assured of going with the next 3 best times in the 5 regional meets also going.
The 4x100 team of Nida, Tabitha Sonnen, Lauren Merrill and Vanessa Sonnen placed second at regionals in 52.8 and has qualified for state.
The 4x200 team of Tabitha Sonnen, Nida, Kayla Uhlenkott and Vanessa Sonnen also placed second in 1:51.1 and qualified for state.
Despite finishing third the medley team also qualified for state. Their time was 1:57.92.
Just missing out on a state berth were Vanessa Sonnen who was fifth in the triple jump at 30’9½’ and Lauren Merrill who was sixth in the long jump at 13’8½”. 
Prairie’s girls took third in the 4x400 relay in 5:13.8 while their boys team was fourth in 4:09.2. Merrill, Bridget Enneking, Uhlenkott and Long made up the girls team while Brandon Crea, Joe Peneku, Maurizio Henau and Kelby Wilson made up the boys team.
As a team the girls placed fourth with 64 ½ points while the boys were sixth with 10 points out of 8 schools competing.
State Schedule
Riener will be the first Prairie competitor to see action as the discus competition will be Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m. (All times MDT).
The girls high jump and girls pole vault both start at 9 a.m. On Friday.
Running preliminaries start at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with the medley final concluding the session.
The Parade of Athletes will start at 4:45 p.m.
Running finals, including the rest of the relays will start at 9:30 a.m. at Saturday.
Allison Jones is about to clear 4'4 in the high jump. J.D. Riener tosses the discus.
Briget Long cleared 6'6 in the pole vault, a new school record. Nicole Nida placed 4th in the 100 final. She set a school record the day before.
Vanessa Sonnen was nipped at the finish by Grangeville in the 4x100, one of 3 relays to qualify for state.
