Track team earns 3 state medals
The Prairie Track team brought home 3 state medals for the State Track Meet held May 20-22 at Boise.
The girls 4x200 relay was the best finisher with a 4th place finish in 1:52.99. They were runner-up to Grangeville at Regionals but had the satisfaction of finishing higher than Grangeville at state.
Tabitha Sonnen placed fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.35.
Also medaling was the girls 4x100 relay team, which placed sixth in 53.55.
Competing but not medaling were Nicole Nida who made the 100 meter dash finals where she finished 8th in 13.55; the girls medley relay which finished 7th in 1:59.18; Sonnen in the 300 hurdles who had the 11th best preliminary time of 51.54 but didn’t make the finals; and J.D. Riener who was 16th in the discus at 111’1”.
Neither Allison Jones in the high jump nor Briget Long in the pole vault was able to clear the opening height.
As a team the girls placed 14th overall with 15 points.
Riener was the only Prairie boy competing and only the top 8 finishers score team points.
