Summit boys wins fourth straight game
Saturday evening here at home, Summit Academy picked up their fourth straight win of the new year, bursting out to a 20 point 53 to 33 point 3rd Q lead over guests Salmon River, then surviving a five for seven three point effort on the part of the visitors.
With the three outburst, the Salmon River boys chalked up 24 points in the 4th quarter, but the local Patriots tossed in 19 of their own to hold the lead, and finish on the high end of a 72 to 57 score.
Dylan Greene led the Patriot attack, with 34 points built on eight two-point goals, and three treys, while Shane Wemhoff added 22 of his own while garnering 10 steals on defense. Brandon Rehder chipped in 10 points sandwiched around two threes, with Stephen Spencer and Mark Uhlenkott adding 4 and 2 respectively. Salmon River was led by Charlie Mignerey and Adam Ader with 16 points apiece.
Summit’s most productive quarters proved to be the second and third, as the local boys tallied up 39 during those two periods while limiting the visitors to 21.
Next action for the Summit varsity is a date with St. Mary’s this weekend at Colfax, with JV’s playing at 4:30 and the varsity at 6:00, as part of the Colfax Invitational pre-Christmas tourney.
Summit JV’s were also active this past week, dropping a hard fought 38 to 31 battle to Orofino’s Frosh, but turning the tables on Grangeville’s frosh by winning a defensive match 30 to 24 there Monday night. With Jacob Uhlenkott temporarily out because of a bad ankle, the JV’s have had to play both games with five players only, and finished each game with four players on the floor, and one on the bench because of five fouls. The Summit JV squad will be playing Grangeville frosh in a re-match also this week, and will go up against St. Mary’s JV’s in the tourney action at Colfax this weekend.
Summit’s girls will also be taking on Grangeville frosh Thursday in Grangeville at 4:00 P.M., with the Patriot’s JV’s involved in that game, while both the boys and the girls varsities will be at Lapwai for a double header there Monday evening, the girls’ game scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M. there with the boys following.
