Lady Pirates win big over Nezperce
The Prairie Lady Pirates had little trouble with Nezperce as they defeated the Indians 64-14 in a White Pine League game at Cottonwood Tuesday, January 4.
Brittny Behler connected on 7 of 10 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer, to lead the team in scoring with 15 points
Prairie led 15-8 at the end of the first period then put the defensive clamps on the Indians as they allowed just 2 points in the second quarter, none in the third and 4 in the fourth.
Prairie led 29-10 at the half and 46-10 after three quarters.
Almost every got into the scoring column as Bridget Enneking and Natalie Arnzen scored 8 each, Ashley Jackson and Vanessa Sonnen 7 each, Tabitha Sonnen 6, Briget Long and Tiffany Schaeffer 4 each, Lauren Merrill 3 and Jenna Nida 2.
There was no JV game.

Lady Pirates lose to Kendrick
The Prairie Lady Pirates fell behind 0-10 to start the game and never were in the game after that as Kendrick rolled to a 24-58 win at Cottonwood Saturday, Jan. 8.
Prairie just couldn’t get anything going against the Kendrick defense and what shots they were able to get wouldn’t fall.Brittny Behler shoots a lay-up as Briget Long looks on.
Kendrick took a 6-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Prairie managed just 3 free throws in the first 4:45 of the second quarter as they fell behind by 14 points.
Baskets by Tiffany Schaeffer and Briget Long allowed them to cut the lead back to 10 but Kendrick ended the half with a 0-5 run, all on free throws, to lead 14-29 at the break.
Kendrick started the third quarter with a 0-9 run and outscored Prairie 3-19 in the quarter as all Prairie could muster offensively were 3 free throws. 
Prairie didn’t score a basket in the second half until Ashley Jackson’s driving lay-up with 3:24 left in the game. Meghan VanderPas then added a 3-pointer.
Brittny Behler wound up as Prairie’s leading scorer with 5 points with Jackson, Natalie Arnzen and Schaeffer scoring 4 each, Long and VanderPas 3 each and Bridget Enneking 1.
Prairie connected on just 6 of 47 shots in the game, 13%; and 11 for 25 at the line. Kendrick was 19 for 37 from the field, 51%, and 19 for 33 at the line. Nichole Scott led the Tigers with 20 points.
Prairie edged Kendrick on the boards 38-36 with Arnzen collecting 10 rebounds to lead the team while Long added 9.
Arnzen had 4 steals and Jackson had 3 while Merrill, Behler, Arnzen and Jackson each had 1 assists.

Kendrick jumped out to a 2-7 lead but 2 free throws by Kylie Uhlorn and a basket by Nicole Nida pulled Prairie within 1 at 6-7 by the end of the quarter. 
Kendrick dominated the second quarter though as they held Prairie scoreless until the final minute while scoring 13 points themselves. Randi Schumacher broke the scoring drought with a basket as Prairie trailed 8-20 at the half.
A 3-pointer by Tiffany Schaeffer and a free throw by Uhlorn pulled Prairie within 10 but a 3-pointer and two 2-point baskets by Kendrick pushed the lead up to 17. 
Two free throws by Schaeffer made it 14-29 after three quarters.
Kendrick extended the lead to 18 thanks to a pair of 3-pointers but a 6-0 run by Prairie cut the lead back to 12 at 23-35 with 3:07 left.
Prairie wasn’t able to get any closer though.
Meghan VanderPas and Becky Gehring led the JV’s in scoring with 6 points each with Schaeffer scoring 5, Uhlorn and Nida 3 each and Tabitha Sonnen and Schumacher 2 each.
Prairie had a 48-37 rebounding advantage with Uhlorn leading the way with 9 rebounds. VanderPas and Gehring add8 each.
Uhlorn had 6 steals while VanderPas, Nida and Tabitha Sonnen had 3 each.
The JV’s were 8 for 51 from the field, 16%, and 10 for 25 at the line. Kendrick was 17 for 51 from the field, 33%, and 5 for 8 from the line.

Lady Pirates beat Timberline
The Prairie Lady Pirates bounced back from their loss to Kendrick with a 46-15 win over Timberline Monday, Jan. 10 at Cottonwood.
Timberline hung with the Pirates through the first quarter, scoring first on a 3-pointer and tying the game at 5 with 4:15 left. Prairie then started a 10-0 run that last into the second quarter and put them firmly in control.
Tiffany Schaeffer and Vanessa Sonnen each scored baskets to end the first quarter with Prairie up 9-5. Briget Long then scored two lay-ups off high post feeds from Natalie Arnzen and Arnzen closed out the run with a basket from the high post.
Timberline scored a basket to break the run but Prairie then outscored the Spartans 10-1 the rest of the half as they took a 25-8 lead into the break.Natalie Arnzen battles for position against Kendrick.
The Prairie defense limited Timberline to just 5 shot attempts in the second quarter. 
The defensive dominance continued into the third quarter as the Spartans managed just 7 shots in the third quile Prairie built their lead. Prairie outscored Timberline 11-4 in the third quarter as the Spartans managed just a 3-pointer and free throw.
Prairie spread the scoring around as 5 different players scored in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter Timberline managed to score just 3 points, all from the free throw line as they were 0 for 7 from the field.
The Pirates spread the wealth on offense as 10 different players scored and Bridget Enneking was the high scorer with just 9 points. Brittny Behler scored 8 points with Long scoring 6, Arnzen and Meghan VanderPas 5 each, Sonnen 4, Lauren Merrill 3 and Schaeffer, Ashley Jackson and Jenna Nida 2 each.
Prairie also dominated on the boards 44-26. Behler led in rebounds with 10 with Arnzen adding 8.
Schaeffer and Behler had 4 steals each. Behler had 4 assists and Arnzen added 3 as both players were effective passing from the high post.
Prairie connected on 18 of 54 shots, 33%, and 10 of 18 free throws while Timberline was 4 for 29 from the field, 14%, and 5 for 12 at the line.
With the win Prairie improves to 11-3 on the season and 5-2 in league play.
The JV team bounced back from their only loss of the season for a 61-23 win.
Prairie started the game with a 16-0 run as they held Timberline scoreless for the first 7 minutes. VanderPas scored 7 of those 16 points with Nicole Nida adding 4. 
Timberline’s only score of the first quarter was a free throw as Prairie led 18-1 at the break.
The Spartans started to find the basket in the second quarter as they outscored Prairie 3-8in the first 3 minutes of the quarter.
Prairie turned things around though and outscored Timberline 11-1 in the final 4:17 of the half with Kylie Uhlorn scoring 5 of those points.
The third quarter saw both teams scoring well with Prairie edging further into the lead by outscoring the Spartans 16-12 in the quarter. Becky Gehring scored 8 of Prairie’s 16 in the period.
In the final period the Prairie defense took over as they limited Timberline to just 1 point while scoring 13.
Every player scored in the game for the Pirates with Gehring leading the way with 11 points. Tabitha Sonnen and Nida scored 9 each with VanderPas and Uhlorn scoring 7 each. Randi Schumacher and Shayla Dalgliesh scored 5 points each while Carolyn Sonnen, Sarah Arnzen had 3 each and Myken Dahlen scored 2.
Prairie dominated the boards by a 60-26 count with Uhlorn hauling down 15 rebounds and Gehring 12. Schumacher added 8 rebounds.
Tabitha Sonnen was a terror on defense with 8 steals and VanderPas had 4 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 24 for 67 from the field, 36%, and 13 for 26 at the line. Timberline was 9 for 36 from the field, 25%, and 5 for 15 at the line.
