Summit picks up a couple of wins
Playing at Riggins Tuesday and hosted by the Salmon River varsities there, Summit’s Patriots picked up two more wins last week, the girls winning by 45 to 36, and the boys’ game following resulting in a 56 to 44 victory for the local boys.
In the preliminary, Elaine Rehder led the Summit attack, netting 10 points and grabbing five rebounds, but was ably assisted by Cori Wemhoff, nine points and five boards, Elaine Rehder with 8 points and also five boards, Lauren Wemhoff, seven points and three boards, Alexa Prigge, 4 points and leading the rebound effort with six, and Amber Nuxoll and Jacquie Lustig with points four and three respectively. Jeannie Goeckner, Kelli Shears and Alyssa Frei also saw ample playing time in the game, and helped on the boards and defense very well, but were unable to connect at the net.
The win put the Summit girls at 11 and 1 for the season, with a trip to Timberline on the near horizon, and a tournament at Logos in Moscow next week.
Saturday at Grangeville, the Summit JV girls took an early lead in their third meeting with Grangeville’s frosh, but a five of six three point effort by Bulldog Jordan Lennger during the third and fourth quarters proved to much for the local girls, and they lost out at the end 31 to 27. Scoring for the Patriots were Lauren Chmelik with two, Jacquie Lustig with three, Jeanne Goeckner with ten, Amber Nuxoll with seven, and Alyssa Frei with five.
Following the girl’s Salmon River game, Summit’s boys continued their mastery over the Salmon River boys in their game, pulling ahead early then dropping three points to the host team, 16 to 19 in the fourth quarter to still pull out a relatively easy 56 to 44 victory. Shane Wemhoff continued his torrid scoring streak in the game, netting 24 while pulling down eight rebounds from his point guard position, while Dylan Greene led the Summit effort on the boards with 10 while notching 16 points, Zach Frei connected on his only shot of the game, a trey, to finish with three, Jacob Uhlenkott added three points to his six rebounds, and Brandon Rehder continued his consistent play with ten points and six rebounds. Mark Uhlenkott and Ben Kuther also played well during the game. Quarter scores of 19-7, 31-14, 40-25, and the final 56-44 were fashioned a lot on steals and fast break baskets, with Greene and Wemhoff each logging four thefts.
Final regular season games for the Patriot boys include a trip to Timberline this week and a home game at Prairie High School next Monday, the 31st against Pullman Christian. The boys’ team will also be participating in the Logos Invitational next weekend in Moscow. Summit’s record is eight and five, with all five losses coming by a total of 20 points, the narrowest being a 57 to 56 loss to St. Mary’s during the Christmas break at Colfax.
