VanderPas tosses no-hitter
Meghan VanderPas tossed a 5-inning no-hitter as the Prairie Lady Pirates won their first ever White Pine League softball game 13-0 at Kendrick Thursday, March 24.In addition to her no-hitter, Meghan VanderPas picked up a pair of hits.
VanderPas allowed just 3 baserunners in the game, all on walks, while striking out 11 hitters. Only 1 ball was hit out of the infield and Lindsey Crea had to move only about 2 steps to catch that fly ball in centerfield.
Meanwhile Prairie was having little trouble scoring as they sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring 7 runs.
Ashley Schaeffer walked to lead off the game but was forced at second by Crea. VanderPas doubled to center and Natalie Arnzen walked to load the bases. Crea scored when Kylie Uhlorn received a bases loaded walk. Alli Holthaus then doubled to right to score 2 runners and Tiffany Schaeffer followed with a 2-run single. After Kim Schaeffer walked she kept on going to second as the pitcher wasn’t paying attention and when the throw got away at second, Tiffany Schaeffer scored. Brooke Holthaus then singled to left to score Kim Schaeffer.Tiffany Schaeffer brought in a run from third with this bunt.
In the second Prairie added 2 more runs. Arnzen and Uhlorn both walked with Arnzen scoring on Tiffany Schaeffer’s squeeze bunt toward first. Uhlorn then scored on a single to right center by Kim Schaeffer. 
Prairie added 3 more runs in the third inning. Crea led off with a walk and VanderPas followed with a single. Crea scored on Arnzen’s grounder to third with Arnzen reaching on a throwing error. Uhlorn then singled to center to score Myken Dahlen who was courtesy running for VanderPas. Arnzen then scored on Alli Holthaus’ ground out to short.
Prairie added 1 final run in the fifth when Arnzen led off with an infield single. She went to second when the throw went wide of first and later scored on another error.
Prairie had 8 hits in the game, a double and single by VanderPas, a double by Alli Holthaus and a single each by Arnzen, Uhlorn, Tiffany Schaeffer, Kim Schaeffer and Brooke Holthaus.
With the win Prairie improves to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
