Nida, 800 relay are state champions
Nicole Nida in the 100 meters and the 4x200 relay team of Kayla Uhlenkott, Gina Holthaus, Tabitha Sonnen and Vanessa Sonnen each won state championships at the 1-A State Track Meet Friday and Saturday, May 20-21 at Boise.
Nida won the 100 in 12.93 after having run a personal best 12.80 in the preliminaries.
The 4x200 team won in a time of 1:50.91.
As a team the girls missed out on the team title by just 1 point, scoring 77 points to take second to Kootenai who had 78. After Friday’s action Prairie had trailed Kootenai 17-48. Kootenai’s Darcy Collins carried her team to the win with 4 first place finishes. In three of those a Prairie competitor took second in the event, the 200 and both hurdles races.
Nida also brought home three second place medals. She was second in the 200 in 26.80, second in the 400 in a personal best 1:00.9 and was part of the 4x100 relay team along with Holthaus, Casandra Schaeffer and Vanessa Sonnen that took second in 52.82, .22 seconds out of first.
Earning a pair of second place medals was Tabitha Sonnen who took second in both hurdles races. She ran the 100 hurdles in 17.03 and the 300 hurdles in 49.75. 
Gina Holthaus placed third in the long jump with a personal best of 15’7½” while Vanessa Sonnen placed fourth in the triple jump at 32’10½”.
Lauren Merrill was unable to clear opening height in the pole vault.
J.D. Riener, the only boys team member to make it to state, brought home a fourth place medal in the discus with a mark of 127’10”. He also competed in the shot put but was unable to record a legal throw. His 5 points for fourth in the discus placed the Prairie boys team in 31st place.
