Lady Pirates win at Culdesac
The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up a 5-game league win at Culdesac Tuesday, Sept. 27 by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8.
That gained Prairie a season split with Culdesac, who had beaten them in a 5-game match at Cottonwood earlier in the season.
Tiffany Schaeffer led the offense with 13 kills in the match while Ashley Schaeffer had 11 kills. Natalie Arnzen added 7 kills with Sarah Forsmann and Bridget Enneking tallying 6 each.
Lindsey Crea had 36 assists.
Prairie lost the JV match 23-25, 23-25, 15-11.

Lady Pirates sweep Timberline
The Prairie Lady Pirates recorded their first 3-game sweep of the season as they defeated Timberline 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 at Cottonwood Thursday, Sept. 29.Sarah Forsmann tips the ball over for a point.
It was also Prairie’s first league win at home and only their second home win overall.
In the first game a 5-point run serving run by Sarah Forsmann broke open a close game. She scored the kill that gave Prairie a 5-4 lead and put her on the service line. Natalie Arnzen picked up a kill when Timberline’s dig of Forsmann’s served turned out to be a perfect set for Arnzen. After a pair of aces, Arznen picked up another kill and Forsmann served another ace for a 10-4 lead.
Timberline never got any closer than 3 points the rest of the way. 
They had closed within 13-10 when Bridget Enneking scored a kill for a sideout. Enneking, Forsmann and Arnzen then each scored a kill during Lindsey Crea’s 3-point service run.
The teams for the most part traded sideouts until Forsmann’s turn to serve came up again. With the score at 22-14 she served out the game. She had an ace and Tiffany Schaeffer and Arnzen each added a kill. Arnzen’s kill was a smashing spike that ended the game.
Prairie jumped out to a big early lead in the second game, thanks in large part to a 6-point serving run that included 3 aces by Forsmann. 2 kills by Arnzen and another by Tiffany Schaeffer gave Prairie a 12-2 lead.

Prairie was able to keep Timberline from taking the lead but couldn’t put the Spartans away either.
After a pair of aces, Timberline was able to tie the score at 19 but a kill by Arnzen put Prairie back into the lead.
An ace by Forsmann and a kill by Tiffany Schaeffer pushed the lead to 3 at 22-19.
Timberline again pulled within 1 at 22-21 but a kill by Tiffany Schaeffer put Arnzen at the service line. A kill each by Enneking and Tiffany Schaeffer end the game.
The third game stayed closed until Ashley Schaeffer put together a 4-point service run that turned a 14-9 lead into an 18-9 advantage. She had 2 aces while Forsmann and Arnzen each added a kill. 
Timberline was able to close within 6 at 18-12 but that was their last rally.
Both sides were able to sideout their other’s serve over the next several points until Tiffany Schaeffer stepped to the service line. She served up 3 straight aces to end the match.
For the match Arnzen had 16 kills and an ace. Tiffany Schaeffer had 12 kills and 4 aces. Forsmann had 5 kills and 8 aces. Enneking had 6 kills and 3 aces, Ashley Schaeffer had 3 kills and 6 aces and Crea had 40 assists.
Prairie is now 5-5 in league play and 7-10 overall.Ashley Schaeffer is about to smash the ball for a kill.
The JV team also won in a sweep. 25-19, 25-11, 15-13.
They fell behind early in the opening game, by as many at 7 points at 4-11. 
They managed to pull back within 1 at 12-13 then slipped back to 12-16. Kim Schaeffer scored a kill for a sideout at that point that put her at the service line.
She served 6 straight aces to give Prairie a 19-16 lead before Timberline finally scored a sideout. 
Gina Holthaus tipped the ball over on the second hit for a kill to bring the serve back to Prairie at 20-17.
Tessica Nuxoll then served Prairie up to game point. She had 2 aces and Sarah Arnzen and Brooke Holthaus each added a kill to make it 24-17. 
After a sideout and an ace by Timberline, Arnzen scored the game-winning kill.
Prairie again fell behind early in the second game at 2-6.
Brooke Holthaus then served the Pirates into the lead with 3 aces in addition to a kill by Nuxoll.
After a trade of sideouts, Kim Schaeffer had another long serving run. This one was 7 straight with 4 aces, 2 kills by Nuxoll and a kill by Arnzen for a 15-7 lead.
Prairie had a 19-11 lead when Arnzen took over at the service line and served out the game. She had two aces while Gina Holthaus, Brooke Holthaus and Chelsea Long added kills. Long’s was the game-winner.
In the anticlimactic third game, Prairie again fell behind early at 3-6 but fought back to take the lead at 9-7.
Timberline tied it at 9-9 but then missed a serve and Prairie held the lead the rest of the way.
Charlene Duman had a pair of aces to extend the lead to 3 but Timberline cut the lead back to 1 at 12-11, 13-12, and 14-13.
A missed served by Timberline was the game-winning point.
