2005, year in review
The year of 2005 saw some new businesses and some changes of ownership in others.
The year also saw the housing market get tighter as by the end of the year there were not many houses for sale.
Bill Hill, owner of Idaho Stove, was elected to fill a city council position.
JANUARY
St. Mary’s Hospital started a “Circle of Life” program and as one part of the program started giving tours of the hospital and clinic.
Prairie Elementary received a Wells Fargo grant of $500.
A story gave information of Nic Fuzzell of Cottonwood planning to spend a year in China.
Delylah Jewel Minear was the first baby at St. Mary’s Hospital for 2005.  She was born Jan. 12 to Shelli and Branage Minear of Kamiah.
Clark and Eleanor Hinkelman are awared “No. 1 Fan’s of the Year” plaque by the Prairie Booster Club.
BIRTHS
Nolan Robert Johnson born Dec. 26, 2004 to Carrie and Jeff Johnson of Sandpoint, ID.
Adeline Marie Wimer born Jan. 10 to Kristine and Jeff Wimer of Nampa.
Coleman Christian Moea’i born Dec. 15, 2004 to Danette Coleman and Tualo Moea’i of Cottonwood.
DEATHS:
Alice M. Uhling, 77, died Dec. 27, 2004, at Life Care Center in Lewiston.  She was born April 12, 1927 at Keuterville, ID.  She was the youngest of 12 children.  Alice is survived by 4 daughters and 2 brothers.
Eva V. Taylor, 102, died Jan. 5 at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born June 23, 1902, at Tammy.
James “Jim” Bieker, 78, died Oct. 24, 2004 at his home in Nampa.  He was born Oct.17, 1926 in Ferdinand.
Andrew G. Seubert, 93, died Jan. 12 at St. Joseph Care Center.  He was born Aug. 8, 1911 at Greencreek.  Andrew enjoyed farming, bowling and pinochle.
Sr. Barbara May Gonzales, 66, died Jan. 18 in Gooding, ID.  She was with her family following the death of her sister.
CELEBRATION:
Claudine Uhlenkott celebrated her 90th birthday in Lewiston with her family.  Special guest was her husband, Vince, of 71 years.
FEBRUARY
A new ambulance arrives at St. Mary’s Hospital.
The new Conference and Spirituality Center was under construction at St. Gertrude’s.
Chris Rehder and Justin Smith were students of the month for January at Prairie High School.
Dakota Klinkefus and Ashley Schaeffer are students of the month for February at Prairie High School.
DEATHS:
Carol Sue McDonough, 67, died recently in Sayton, Oregon.  She was born July 3, 1936 to Anthony George and Hilda Seubert.
John Lawrence Wassmuth, 70, died Jan. 9.  He was born April 5, 1934 at Greencreek.
Matthew G. Seubert, 93, died Jan. 12.  He was born at Greencreek Aug. 18, 1911.
Dr. Weldon C. Flint, 89, died Feb. 7 at his home in Ferdale.  Weldon was born June 27, 1915 in Portland, Oreg. but spent his childhood in Cottonwood.
Thomas A. Nau, 15, died Feb. 16 following a motor vehicle accident near the high school.  He was born Sept. 4, 1989 in Cottonwood to Mike and Susan Nau.
BIRTHS:
Julie Catherine Rehder born Jan. 31 to Noland and Rachel Lamb Rehder.
Cole Alan Wilkins was born Feb. 19 at Moscow to Riley and Stephanie Wilkins of Troy.
CELEBRATIONS:
Herman Forsman celebrates his 100th birthday.  He was born Feb. 20, 1905 in Keuterville and has continued to live in the area all his life.
MARCH
The Missoula Children’s presentation is the “Jungle Book” Friday, March 4.  78 children attended the audition.
Students were active during March with awards given at Sports Banquets and achievements recorded in the grade, high school and college level.
DEATHS:
Betty Ann Farmer, 56, died Feb. 14 in Houston, Texas.  She was born April 5, 1948, in Appleton, Wis. to Eddie and Isabel Nuxoll West.
Hilda Mary Chapman, 88, died Feb. 24 in Klamath Falls, Oregon.  Hilda was born Dec. 24, 1916 in Montana to Charles J. and Mary Ann Schmidt Poxleitner.
Mavis Janison Chestnut, 82, died March 19 at her home near Colfax, Wash.  She was born Dec. 16, 1922 at Coppertorn, North Dakota to Harry and Laura Harrington Clark.
Mary Ann Ahlers, 76, died March 22.  She was born Jan. 26, 1929 in Cottonwood.  Mary Ann married Herbert George Ahlers Oct. 18, 1949 and they made their home in Cottonwood.

Sydney Madison Jungert was born Feb. 23 to Jason and Mary Jungert of Lewiston.
Ty Dustin Mainer was born Feb. 23 to Paul and Heidi Mainer of Caldwell, Idaho.
Cecilla May Syron was born March 1 to Matt Syron and Jenifer Branson.
Quirt James Goeckner was born Feb. 22 to William and Lynn Goeckner of Keuterville.
Cody Leo Wassmuth was born Feb. 17 to Neil and Susan Wassmuth.
Carson James Way born March 10 to Linc and Heather Way of Lewiston.
Hanna Rose Moses was born March 9 to Scott and Bonnie Moses of Victor, Idaho.
