Lady Pirates play Deary at District on Friday
The girls district basketball tournament got underway this week with a pair of play-in games Wednesday, Feb. 1 at LCSC’s Activity Center.
Deary defeated Timberline and will play Prairie at approximately 7 p.m. Friday while Troy defeated Nezperce and will play Genesee in Friday's opener.
Prairie finished up the season in a 3-way tie for first place with Genesee and Kendrick and will enter the tournament as the #2 seed. Genesee will be #1.
Lapwai will face Culdesac, who won the coin flip with Highland for 5th place, at 5:30.
The final game of the night will feature Kendrick against Highland.
Friday’s losers will play on Saturday in loser out games starting at 1:30 p.m. If Prairie should lose Friday they would play in the 3 p.m. game.
Friday’s winners will play Tuesday, Feb. 7. If Prairie wins, they would play in the late game at about 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 10, Tuesday’s losers will face Saturday’s winners in loser out action starting at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, Friday’s winners will play for third place at 1:30 and at 3 p.m. will be the championship game.
The top 3 teams all advance to the state tournament.

Lady Pirates win at Nezperce
The Prairie Lady Pirates broke open a low-scoring close game in the second half as they pulled away to a 41-26 win at Nezperce Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Prairie led just 14-13 at the half as Nezperce used a deliberate offense to slow down the pace and keep the game close.
Prairie was able to extend their lead to 24-20 by the end of the third quarter and their pressure really made a difference in the 17-6 final quarter.
Nicole Nida, Tabitha Sonnen and Meghan VanderPas picked up the lion’s share of the steals on the press as Prairie was able to force 25 turnovers.
Natalie Arnzen and Bridget Enneking each had 10 points to lead the Pirates in scoring. Brittny Behler added 8 points while Tiffany Schaeffer scored 7. Ashley Jackson, Sonnen and Kylie Uhlorn scored 2 each.

Lady Pirates finish regular season with win
The Prairie Lady Pirates clinched a tie for the regular season championship in the White Pine League with a 74-32 win at Timberline Friday, Jan. 27.Bridget Enneking shoots at Timberline.
They finished the league season at 11-2 and tied with Genesee and Kendrick for the league title. Through tie-breakers they will take the #2 seed into the district tournament.
Prairie jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the game and were never really threatened. Tabitha Sonnen, who started in place of Tiffany Schaeffer who missed the game due to illness, scored 5 of those 9 points with Brittny Behler scoring the other 4.
Prairie wound up with an 18-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.
They started the second quarter with a 10-0 run as they extended the lead to 36-12 by halftime.
Becky Gehring came off the bench to hit 4 of 5 shots in the quarter while Kylie Uhlorn was 2 for 2, both from the perimeter.
In the third quarter Prairie got off to a 7-0 start and finished the quarter with another 7-0 run but Timberline had their best stretch of the game in between as they outscored Prairie 2-7.
Prairie came up with 22 points in the fourth quarter as they rolled to their highest scoring output of the season.
Uhlorn wound up as the leading scorer as she hit 7 of 9 shots from the field, mostly from 16 to 17 feet out for 14 points. Gehring was right behind with 13 points. Also hitting for double figures were Bridget Enneking with 11 and Behler with 10. Natalie Arnzen scored 8, Sonnen 7, Nicole Nida 6, Jennifer Enneking 3, and Ashley Jackson 2.
Prairie dominated the boards 45-22. Gehring led the Pirates with 13 rebounds while Behler added 8 and Arnzen 7.
Sonnen had 4 steals and 8 different players had assists led by Meghan VanderPas with 4. Jackson, Nida and Jennifer Enneking had 3 each.
Prairie was 32 for 66 from the field, 48%, and 7 for 12 at the line. Timberline was 10 for 36 from the field, 28%, and 8 for 12 at the line.

The JV team meanwhile wrapped up an undefeated season with a 63-10 blowout. 
Prairie led 22-0 after one quarter and 30-0 before Timberline finally got on the board with 1:15 left in the first half.
Mandi Geis had 8 points in the first quarter and 10 in the half to lead the way with Kaylee Uhlenkott adding 7 and Kara Guyer 5.
They outscored the Spartans 13-5 in the third quarter and 16-3 in the final period.
Uhlenkott led 4 players in double figures with 13 points while Geis scored 12, Sarah Arnzen 11 and Guyer 10.
Emily Lerandeau added 6 points, Jennifer Enneking 4, Christa Wilson 3 and Kim Schaeffer and Kristi Poxleitner 2 each.
Prairie held a 43-31 rebounding edge led by Geis with 10. Poxleitner and Wilson had 7 rebounds each and Lerandeau and Uhlenkott added 6 each.
Prairie forced 40 turnovers from the Spartans with Guyer picking up 6 steals to lead Prairie. Geis, Alli Holthaus and Wilson had 4 steals each. Holthaus had 4 assists.
Prairie was 27 for 67 from the field, 40%, and 5 for 13 at the line. Timberline was 4 for 31 from the field, 13%, and 1 for 3 at the line.
