It looked like it might be more of the same as their earlier match against Culdesac as they held a 20-15 lead in the first game only to fail to close it out.
In the second game they kept it close as well as Troy led most of the game. The Trojans took their biggest lead at 8-13 but a kill by Brooke Holthaus scored the sideout and Prairie fought back to take the lead at 19-18.
Troy bounced back for a 19-22 lead but Kim Schaeffer ended the run with a kill.
She then went back to the service line and was able to serve out the game. She served an ace and then picked up a back row kill as her dig of a Troy spike found a hole on the Troy side of the net. Another ace and a kill by Sarah Arnzen made it game point and Troy spiked the ball into the net for the final point.
The third game was another hard-fought game with Troy leading most of the way but never by more than 3 points. Prairie led at 1-0 but didn’t lead again until Tessica Nuxoll won a joust at the net to make it 13-12.
Troy took back the lead until an ace by Alli Holthaus made it 17-16.
That lead was also short-lived as Troy took the lead right back.
The Trojans matched their biggest lead of the game at 20-23 but a kill by Arnzen put Carolyn Sonnen at the service line. Brooke Holthaus knocked back a Troy hit at the net for a kill and Sonnen added an ace to tie the game at 23.
Tessica Nuxoll goes for a spike. Alli Holthaus, 11, made the set.Troy stuffed a spike to get to game point but then served wide.
Brooke Holthaus served up and ace and Kylie Uhlorn scored a kill to end the game.
The fourth game saw Prairie again fall behind early on as the Trojans built leads of 7-14 and 10-18.
Arnzen scored a kill to put Sonnen at the service line at 11-18.
Three straight aces, 2 kills by Arnzen, a kill by Charlene Duman, a push over in 2 for a kill by Sonnen and an ace and Prairie had a 19-18 lead. After Troy’s second timeout during her service run, Sonnen finally missed a service to tie the game.
Arnzen scored a kill to put Prairie back on top at 20-19 and Brooke Holthaus was then able to serve out the match.
She rocketed a serve over for an ace to start the run then a kill by Schaeffer, two kills by Uhlorn and another ace ended it.
For the match Uhlorn had 16 kills including a stuff block and 5 aces. Brooke Holthaus had 11 kills and 6 aces and Arnzen had 10 kills and 2 aces. Sonnen had 17 assists, 3 kills and 7 aces. The JV team did the reverse of the varsity as they won the first game but lost the match 25-19, 24-26, 12-15.
In the first game Prairie trailed early but 3 straight aces by Rachel Kaschmitter and a kill by Samantha Frei game Prairie a 10-7 lead.
Troy though came back to tie the game at 12 and eventually took a 15-19 lead.Sarah Arnzen follows through after a spike. Also shown are Alli Holthaus and Nicole Nida.
Gina Holthaus was able to score the sideout as her get-the-ball-back-over bump found a hole.
Jennifer Enneking then turned the lights out on Troy as she served up 10 straight points to end the game. She had 8 aces and Chelsea Long added a couple of kills at the net.
In the second game Prairie was able to tie the game numerous times but couldn’t seem to get that point they needed to take the lead.
They led 3 times in the game, by 1 point each time.
It looked like they might still steal the game though as one of those leads came at 24-23. A bad serve ended that chance at game point though and Troy served up 2 straight aces to win the game.
Troy then took a 0-4 lead to start the deciding game but Tabitha Sonnen answered back with a 7-point service run. She had 4 aces and Chantel Boniecki had 2 kills while Kaylee Uhlenkott added another as Prairie took an 8-4 lead.
Troy fought back though and Prairie’s final point came on a bad serve by Troy that made it 12-10.
