Lady Pirates swept by Clearwater Valley
The Prairie Lady Pirates lost another league match as they fell in 3 games to Clearwater Valley 26-28, 17-25, 23-25 at Cottonwood Tuesday, September 19.Charlene Duman, who normally hits right-handed, scores a kill left-handed against C.V. Behind Charlene is Carolyn Sonnen.
Prairie took the early lead in the opening game as Brooke Holthaus had a 6-point service run. Kim Schaeffer dominated at the net in the run with 2 stuff blocks plus another kill. Randi Schumacher added a kill and Holthaus had 2 aces as Prairie took an 8-3 lead.
Two aces by Tabitha Sonnen plus a kill by Tessica Nuxoll pushed the lead to 14-6.
Prairie led 22-15 when things started coming apart. C.V. scored the sideout on a net violation by the Pirates then served up 4 straight aces to cut the lead to 22-20.
Prairie had a chance at game point after a kill by Nuxoll made it 24-21 but C.V. was able to score the side out.
Another net violation plus 2 aces gave C.V. a chance at a sideout at 24-25.
A kill by Nuxoll tied the score and an ace by Sarah Arnzen gave Prairie another game-point chance.
A missed serve tied it up again and C.V. then served out the game for the win.
After having the first game snatched away from them, Prairie came out flat in the second game and fell behind 0-7 and 2-9.
They weren’t able to get any closer than 4 points as C.V. dominated.
In the third game the Pirates took an early lead at 4-1 and held the lead for much of the game.
They led by as many as 6 points at 16-10 but at that point C.V. started their comeback.
Prairie still led 18-14 when C.V.’s Nicole Schlieper went to the service line and when she was done Prairie trailed 18-20.

Schaeffer had 8 kills including 3 stuff blocks to lead the Pirates. Schumacher and Nuxoll had 5 kills each while Brooke Holthaus had 4 kills and 6 aces. Arnzen had 4 kills and 2 aces and Charlene Duman had 4 kills including one she hit left-handed.
Carolyn Sonnen had 14 assists, 2 kills and an ace and Alli Holthaus had 8 assists and an ace.
The JV team meanwhile won their match 25-13, 26-24, 11-15.
The opening game was close until Gina Holthaus’ second turn at the service line. It was 10-8 when she took over and she served for 4 points to make it 14-8. She had a pair of aces and assisted on kills by Kaylee Uhlenkott and Samantha Johnson.
C.V. cut the lead to 14-11 but a kill by Chantel Boniecki put Johnson on the service line. She had 2 aces and Boniecki added another kill to make it 18-11.
Uhlenkott then took over the serve at 19-13 and serve out the game as she had 5 kills and Boniecki added another kill.
In the second game Prairie fell behind 1-4 but came back to take the lead on 3 aces by Uhlenkott.
Neither team led by more than 3 points the rest of the game.
For most of it Prairie would fall behind by 1 or 2 and come back to tie it up or take a 1 point lead. 
Finally with 2 aces by Chelsea Long and another by Samantha Frei they had a 21-18 lead.
C.V. bounced back though to take the lead and had a chance at game-point at 22-24.
Jennifer Enneking picked up a kill as she poked the ball over on the second hit.
Uhlenkott served 2 aces to get Prairie to match point and after a C.V. timeout served another ace to win it.
In the anti-climactic third game Prairie jumped out to a 4-1 lead but C.V. roared back to take a 5-7 lead.
Prairie tied it at 7 on Frei’s ace but then C.V. scored the sideout to retake the lead and never relinquished it.

Lady Pirates swept by Nezperce
The Prairie Lady Pirates were swept again in volleyball action, this time by Nezperce 15-25, 24-26, 20-25 at Cottonwood Thursday, Sept. 21.
The loss drops Prairie to 2-13 on the season and 1-6 in league play.
Meanwhile the JV team won their match 25-18, 25-17.
