Lady Pirates lose by 2 to Sitka
The Prairie Lady Pirates lost a 49-51 decision to Sitka, Alaska at Kendrick Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Prairie led most of the game but were outscored 9-15 in the decisive fourth quarter with the winning shot coming with just 2 seconds left.
Prairie led 13-12 after one quarter and 25-24 at the half. They pushed the lead up to 40-36 by the end of the third quarter.
Prairie had very balanced scoring with Becky Gehring, Randi Schumacher and Kaylee Uhlenkott each scoring 8 points to lead the team while Tabitha Sonnen scored 7, Jennifer Enneking and Nicole Nida 6 each, Kylie Uhlorn 4 and Meghan VanderPas 2.

Lady Pirates beat Horseshoe Bend
The Prairie Lady Pirates won big over Horseshoe Bend, 65-36, at the Prairie Middle School gym on the opening day of the Prairie Christmas Tournament Friday, Dec. 15.
The Lady Pirates outscored the Mustangs in every quarter but really came up big in the third when they held a 20-4 advantage.
They led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and 33-23 at halftime.
Nicole Nida scored 11 of her game high 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the third quarter. She also combined with Becky Gehring to shut down the Horseshoe Bend offense, forcing several turnovers that led to easy transition baskets.
Gehring was also in double figures with 11 points while Sarah Arnzen scored 8. Kara Guyer scored 6, Meghan VanderPas Kylie Uhlorn and Kaylee Uhlenkott 4 each, Kristi Poxleitner 3, Jennifer Enneking, Randi Schumacher, Tabitha Sonnen and Emily Lerandeau 2 each and Kim Schaeffer 1.

Lady Pirates double up Council
A 16-2 run in the first quarter put Prairie in control early and the Lady Pirates cruised to a 54-27 win over Council in the Prairie Christmas Tournament Saturday, Dec. 16 at the high school gym.Kaylee Uhlenkott makes a pass.
Council led 2-4 when Prairie went on their run and took control. Kaylee Uhlenkott tied the score with a pair of free throws then Nicole Nida drained a 3-pointer on an inbounds play to give Prairie the lead for good.
Becky Gehring and Meghan VanderPas each scored putbacks and VanderPas added a free throw to make it 12-4.
After a Council basket, Kylie Uhlorn scored Prairie’s next 6 points on 2 baskets and 2 free throws, to make it 18-6.
Prairie led 18-8 at the end of the quarter.
Uhlenkott scored 7 of Prairie’s 11 second quarter points as Prairie built the lead to 25-9 at one point. They led 29-14 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter Council attempted more shots than in the entire first half but only got 2 of their 19 attempts to fall. Prairie wasn’t exactly burning up the nets as they hit 4 of 14 attempts but were able to extend the lead to 39-19 by the end of the period.
The margin stayed around 18-20 points until an 8-0 run late in the fourth pushed the lead to 26.

Prairie also held a 45-36 rebounding edge led by Gehring with 10. Uhlenkott added 8 rebounds, Nida 7 and VanderPas 6.
Nida had 4 steals while Sonnen and VanderPas had 3 each as Prairie forced Council into 28 turnovers.
Nida had 4 assists while Enneking and VanderPas had 3 each.
Prairie was 20 for 58 from the field, 34%, and 13 for 19 at the line while Council was 9 for 41 from the field, 22%, and 9 for 27 at the free throw line.
Uhlenkott and Nida were named to the all-tournament team by the coaches.
With the win Prairie improves to 5-5 on the season.
