Wimer finishes in 7th
Jake Wimer at 160 lbs. advanced the farthest of the Prairie wrestlers at the State tournament at Pocatello this past weekend, finishing 1 win shy of earning a medal.
Wimer lost his first round match to Josh Pulliam of Aberdeen by pin in 1:29. Pulliam went on to take second place.
In the consolation bracket Wimer won by pin in 2:40 over Travis Jensen of Parma. He then won by pin in 1:57 over Derek Daniels of Malad to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. One more win would’ve guaranteed him a state medal. However he lost a tough decision to Chad Kauffman of Grangeville 9-10.
Tony Duman at 140 lbs. also picked up a win at state. He won by pin in his opening round match over Jamie Garcia of New Plymouth in just 54 seconds. In the second round he ran into the #1 seed, Kaden Piva of Challis, and lost by pin in 3:05. Piva went on to take 1st place. Duman was then eliminated by Ryan McNamee of Wallace who won by pin in 2:59.
At 125 lbs. Brandon Poxleitner lost both of his matches. He lost by pin in 2:55 to Caleb Greenwell of Oakley in his first round match then lost by pin in 42 seconds to RJ Cadney of Malad.
