Whatsoever Things Are True

I would like to talk to the person out there today that thinks (as I did for 29 years) that religion is for weak minded people who can’t make it in the real world. That the clergy is, for the most part, corrupt and lazy, making their rounds from widow to widow seeking easy money and fried chicken, and that the whole concept of a “blood sacrifice” or someone two thousand years ago dying in my stead to redeem me from an eternity in hell is just to hard to swallow.  Let’s turn the Spiritual Switch.
Jesus addressed this in Matt. 13:1-9, and expounded upon it in 18-23.
We don’t have time to write it all out here, but do yourself a favor and read it. It is a familiar passage which describes a sower, some seed, and four different kinds of soil. Most of you know more about this than I do.
The Sower, was originally Jesus, then the disciples, and ultimately those of us who spread the Gospel. The Gospel is the “Good News” of the salvation available through Jesus Christ, and Him alone. 2nd Cor. 5:19 says that we (Christians) have been given the “ministry of reconciliation”. That is a heavy thought, but stay tuned; it isn’t as hard as it sounds. Romans 10:15  “how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace”.
The Seed is the Word of God. 1st Peter 1:23 calls it incorruptible seed. “For the word of God is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”; Heb. 4:12.   This seed has power. You have seen it change either your life, or the life of someone close to you in an undeniable way.  One seed can fall in the crack of a sidewalk, and soon the whole area is broken up and changed.
The Soils, are four different conditions of the heart. Note two things. The condition of the soils, with some outside influence, can change. Also, whether the soil rejects or accepts it, there is NOTHING wrong with the Seed.
Next week we will look in depth at the four different soils (heart conditions) and try to determine which one you are. You have to choose one. Fasten your Pew-belts, this could get bumpy. God Bless
