Youth Choir to Start Rehearsals on October 17th
The Prairie Youth Choir will be starting rehearsals on Wednesday, October 17th in the Prairie Elementary Music Room. Prairie Youth Choir is open to any student in the 3rd - 6th grades enrolled in the Cottonwood School District, Summit Academy or Home-Schooled. The only requirements are that you like to sing and are willing to be a team player in a choir and learn your music. You do not have to audition. In choir, you have opportunities to sing solos, work on dramatic skills and stage presence, and have fun! You also learn how to sing harmony and blend your voice the other choir members. Last year, the Prairie Youth Choir was 7th out of 15 choirs in our division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, and we competed against auditioned choirs from mostly larger schools.
Rehearsals are generally on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30. (However, we will practice on Thursday after school, if there is an early out on Wednesday.) Some of the activities of the Prairie Youth Choir are: Christmas caroling in the community, and presenting several small concerts and a concert/talent show at the end of the school year. Of course, we also compete at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow and listen to the 200 voice University of Idaho Jazz Choir and other outstanding Elementary, Middle School and Junior High Choirs and Bands throughout the Northwest.
The cost is $40.00 for new members and $30.00 for returning members. The fees pay for music that you will share with a partner, your choir shirt, entry fees for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow and other costs to run the choir - accompanist, etc.
So, if you like to sing, be sure to attend our first practice on Wednesday October 17th in the Prairie Elementary Music Room, right after school. You can ride the bus to the Elementary. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Karel, the director at 962-3122 in the afternoon or at home in the evenings at 962-5350.
