This is National HOSA Week
November 4-10, 2007 is designated as National HOSA week.  During National HOSA week Health Science students educate their communities on HOSA.  HOSA is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.The students members of HOSA at PHS.
HOSA week activities are designed to provide school or community service; promote opportunities in health care, and show appreciation to the health care community. Activities are planned and implemented that support the mission of HOSA throughout the school and local community.
Prairie High School’s HOSA chapter has a tri-fold poster displayed at the hospital and clinic this week with photos of their members and various activities that they are involved in.  Officers also attended the City Council meeting and Mayor Dennis Duman signed the National Proclamation stating that Cottonwood officially recognizes November 4-10, 2007 as National HOSA Week.
Members have contributed their time this school year towards various community activities, such as the blood drive; Prairie High School PAVE group; Pee Wee Football; The Haunted House fundraiser sponsored by the Snake River Community Clinic in Lewiston; St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics; Prairie Community Library; and St. Gertrude’s Monastery.
Last year HOSA members contributed 288 hours of community service to Cottonwood and the surrounding communities.  This year members have already completed 74 hours of community / volunteer service.
HOSA also holds various fundraisers throughout the school year to help fund their trip to attend and compete at the State Conference in Boise held in April.  Some of the fundraisers they have held have included bake sales and yard work.  Last year six students qualified at the state level in their competitive events and attended the National Conference in Orlando, Florida. 
The members in HOSA this year include: Kevin Karel, Brock Heath, Jason VonBargen, Seth Guyer, Dani Cochran, Katie Nuxoll (president), Conner Rieman (VP), Kyle Daly (Secretary), Sarah Arnzen (Treasurer), Amber Frei (Historian), and Kara Guyer (Reporter).  Advisor is Sheri Daly.
