Lady Pirates win at Culdesac
The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up a win at Culdesac last Tuesday, Sept. 23 as they outlasted the Wolves in 5 games 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10.
The odd thing is that the team with the stage at their back won every game.Chelsea Long scores a kill lefthanded at Culdesac.
In the opening game Prairie took a 6-3 lead on some great net play. Kaylee Uhlenkott scored 4 kills and Brianne Stubbers added another with 4 of those points coming on Chelsea Long’s serves.
Prairie built their lead to 10-5 after a pair of aces by Uhlenkott but Culdesac then took over.
The Wolves got a sideout on a net foul then reeled off 11 straight points on serve before a kill by Sam Johnson ended the run with Culdesac up 11-17.
Prairie got within 4 points at 16-20 after an ace by Sam Johnson and again at 20-24 after a set by Stubbers went awry but wound up scoring a kill. Culdesac got the game-winning point on a spike attempt that went long.
In the second game Prairie fell behind early, 2-8.
They still trailed at 8-13 when Long stuffed a Culdesac spike. Jennifer Enneking followed that up with 4 straight aces that tied the score at 13.
The score was tied again at 14 and 15 with Prairie finally taking the lead on a kill by Stubbers. 
Culdesac tied the score again at 16 and it was tied again at 17, 18 and 20.
Culdesac then took the lead at 20-22 before a kill by Sam Johnson scored a sideout.
Leora Laurino then served up an ace and Sam Johnson scored a kill down the sideline to put Prairie up 23-22.
Culdesac scored a sideout to tie the score but another kill by Sam Johnson and a dig for a kill by Enneking gave Prairie the 2-point win.
Game 3 opened with Culdesac missing a serve and then Sam Johnson serving Prairie to a 4-0 lead with an ace and a kill and a stuff by Long..
Later on, 3 straight aces by Stubbers put Prairie up 9-3.
Culdesac cut into the lead, pulling within 1 at 13-12. Prairie then extended the lead back to 5 at 19-14 but Culdesac rallied again pulling within 1 at 21-20.

Culdesac then jumped out to a 2-8 lead in the fourth game.
Prairie fought back to take an 11-10 lead after 2 kills by Kayla Johnson and 2 aces by Uhlenkott.
Culdesac took back the lead at 13-15 but a missed serve cut the lead to 1 and 2 aces by Sam Johnson and a kill by Uhlenkott put Prairie up 17-15.
Culdesac came back to tie at 18 but a kill by Stubbers scored a sideout and then Stubbers served 2 aces and scored a kill on a second hit to give Prairie a 22-18 lead. 
Culdesac pulled within 22-20 but then missed a serve and Uhlenkott served up 2 aces to give Prairie the win and force a fifth and deciding game.
In the final game Enneking served a pair of aces to give Prairie a quick 2-0 lead but Culdesac came back to make it 2-3.
Stubbers scored a kill to put Sam Johnson on the service line. Long scored 3 consecutive kills, 2 of them lefthanded, to give Prairie a 6-3 lead.
A kill for a sideout by Stubbers and a smashing kill by Uhlenkott made it 9-5.
Culdesac pulled back within 2 at 10-8 but a kill by Francesca Johnson scored a sideout and Uhlenkott picked up a kill to make it 12-8.
A kill for a sideout and an ace again cut the lead to 2 at 12-10 but Stubbers then scored a kill for the sideout. 
Same Johnson scored a kill to get to match point and Enneking served up an ace to win it.
Uhlenkott had 16 kills and 8 aces in the match. Stubbers had 11 kills, 8 aces and 19 assists. Sam Johnson had 11 kills and 5 aces. Long had 10 kills, including 2 stuff blocks, and 2 aces. Enneking had 8 aces, 2 kills and 20 assists. Kayla Johnson had 4 kills, including a stuff and Francesca Johnson had 3 kills and 3 assists.
The JV squad lost their match 16-25, 13-25 to a Wolves JV team that included several varsity players.
Prairie fell behind 0-3 but came back to tie the score at 6-6 after a pair of aces by Haleigh Schmidt. 
Culdesac then scored the sideout and took control with Prairie scoring very few points on serve. Shelby Duman picked up a pair of kills for sideouts with MaKayla Scheffer, Meaghan Bruner, Megan Sigler and Gina Seubert each adding a kill on sidouts. The only serving points came on a kill by Sigler and an ace by Bruner.
In the second game Schmidt served 2 aces to give Prairie a 2-0 lead but Culdesac answered with 5 straight points.
Prairie responded for their first lead of the match as Samantha Poxleitner scored a kill and Ashley Shumway added 2 aces to make it 6-5. After a pair of sideouts, Poxleitner added her own ace to make it 8-6.
Prairie led again by 2 at 10-8 after a stuff block by Duman but Culdesac then scored a sideout and got two big service runs to turn the game into a rout.

Lady Pirates swept by Troy
The Prairie Lady Pirates got swept in a league match at Troy, losing 8-25, 20-25, 22-25.
The loss drops their record to 1-4 in league play and 3-8 overall.
The JV’s though managed to win their match as they defeated Troy 25-23, 25-23.
