schedules flu clinics
St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics have scheduled their flu clinics, according to Shari Kuther, RN. The Nezperce Clinic has scheduled theirs on Monday, October 13. The Kamiah Medical Clinic will hold their flu clinic on Monday, October 20. The Cottonwood clinic will provide shots on Tuesday, October 21. The Craigmont Medical Clinic will hold their flu clinic on Wednesday, October 22. No appointments are necessary. All will be offered during regular clinic business hours.
“It is best to have the flu shot in late October because it will retain its effectiveness a little longer and last throughout the whole season. It’s better to have it a little later than a little earlier,” said Kuther. “SMHC can bill Medicare and Medicaid, so people should bring their card. We cannot bill private insurances so those who don’t qualify for Medicare or Medicaid should bring $35 for a flu shot and $50 if they would like a pneumonia vaccination.
People who need flu shots the most are those in the high risk categories including individuals over the age of 65; residents of long term care facilities; those with compromised immune systems; children and adults with chronic disorders of the pulmonary or cardiovascular systems, including asthma; patients with chronic metabolic diseases, including diabetes; those the kidney disease; women who will be in the second or third trimester of pregnancy during the influenza season and health care workers.
Flu shots are also available from the health department and in a variety of other local locations.
