22 turn out for Girls Basketball
There are 22 girls out for the Prairie High School girls basketball team this year.Jennifer Enneking scores a layup during a scrimmage drill.
Returning starters are Kaylee Uhlenkott, Jennifer Enneking and Kara Guyer, all seniors.
Hilaree VanderPas, a junior, also started several games last year but is dealing with a knee injury.
Kristi Poxleitner, a senior, saw a lot of playing time last year. Players who alternated between varsity and JV last year were Mary Shears, Alena Hoene, NaTosha Schaeffer and Amber Holthaus, all juniors.
Also joining the varsity this year is Megan Sigler, a freshman.
Coach Steve Wilson said that sophomores Kayla Johnson, Meaghan Bruner, Francesca Johnson and Haleigh Schmidt and freshman MaKayla Schaeffer will see action at both the varsity and JV levels this year.
Also on the JV are sophomores Kylee Simmons and Betty Clark and freshmen Demetria Riener, Leslie Nida, Samantha Keating, Brandee Seubert and Monica Lustig.
Wilson said he sees Lapwai, Genesee and Lewis County as being the favorites. Kendrick graduated most of their starters.
Deary has no varsity this year and Culdesac has no JV.
The Lady Pirates first game will be a home game next Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Kamiah.

Prairie High School Drug Free Group Raffle
The IDFY group at PHS is holding a basket raffle. They have 20 unique baskets made up especially for you. Tickets are $1 a piece and can be purchased from any member, their advisor Colleen Sonnen or from the Cottonwood Credit Union.  A few of the baskets are on display at the credit union. Selection of baskets include: Huckleberry treats, a toolbox with tools, a 3-movie package including popcorn and candy, a BBQ set of tools and sauces, and Western wooden box filled with treats, movies and gloves.  There is also a fishing trip offered by Roy Schumacher, and a Mexican Dinner for 6 offered by Colleen Sonnen.  The money will be used to help offset expenses for a youth conference and other trips the group participates during the year.  Please support this group of students who have pledged to be substance free during their high school career.  Drawing will be December 2nd at the home girls’ basketball game against Troy.  For tickets call Colleen Sonnen 962-7049.
