Summit drops Tourney final
Once again the Patriots from Summit Academy found themselves faced with Wilder in the championship game of the annual New Meadows Kickoff Tourney, but things went sour from the very beginning, and the Patriots failed to defend the championship they had won last year over the same team.
Summit’s first four positions resulted in three turnovers, and a botched offensive rebound off the hands of a Patriot, and that coupled with a 27 percent shooting percentage from the floor and an injury to point guard Dustin Lustig taking him out of the game in the second quarter resulted in a 49 to 35 loss for the night.
Lustig did return during the second half and put up six points while grabbing seven rebounds and despite his taped up ankle managed six steals for the game.  Scoring and rebounding for other Patriots: David Johnson-15/8, Dylan Prigge-12/6, Josh Frei-2/3, while Chase Nuxoll and Joe Lustig pulled down three and two boards respectively.
Score by quarters, Summit first, in the game which saw the Wilder crew connect on 4 threes in the first half, and several more tows just inside the line: 8-13, 17-23, 25-35, and the final 35-49.  The Patriots did manage to pull within six points in fourth, but fell behind as Wilder slipped through the press and scored several baskets at the end.
Earlier in the semifinals, Summit had reversed a loss they had suffered 46-48, at the hands of the new Meadows crew, roaring out to an early lead and pouring it on to the tune of a 47 to 29 victory over the tourney hosts.  Scoring in that game as follows:  Derek Nuxoll 3, Austin Chmelik 1, Dustin Lustig 5, David Johnson 5, Dylan Prigge 22, and Josh Frei 4.  The win and loss over the weekend leaves the Patriots with a 2-2 record for the season, with games with Timberline and Salmon River scheduled this week.
Summit girls added two victories to their season record last week, with wins over Meadows Valley and Culdesac here at home, raising their win-loss record to 6 and 0.  Scoring and rebounding not available.  The Patriot ladies also will be taking on Timberline and Salmon River during the current week.
