Summit boys lose twice at CV
The Patriot boys from Summit found the going rough last weekend, as they dropped both of their games at Clearwater Valley's Christmas Tournament, dropping a 47 to 45 overtime loss to Deary in the consolation round, after losing to host CV in the opening round 54 to 39.
Score by quarters in the boys CV game, Summit first: 14 - 6, 25 - 18, 32 - 38, and the final 39 - 54 as the host CV boys heated up in the second half, converting four treys, while Summit turned cold and watched their half time lead disappear in a CV blaze of baskets, some of which came off of turnovers caused by a tenacious CV press. Scoring for the Patriots: Joseph Lustig - 6, Dustin Lustig - 3, David Johnson - 5, Dylan Prigge - 15, Chase Nuxoll - 6, and Josh Frei - 4.
The boys consolation round game with Deary was close throughout, with Summit moving out to a 10 to 5 lead at the quarter break, and still ahead 18 to 11 at the half. A 20 point outburst by Deary in the third however, matched with a meager seven for Summit dropped Summit behind 25 to 31 at the break. Summit clamped down in the fourth, and added 16 of their own to Deary's 10 to leave the score knotted at 41 to 41 at the end of regulation. A last second jump shot by Prigge from 10 apparently ended the game win a Summit win, only to discover an offensive charging call had been made, nullifying the shot and sending the contest into overtime. Deary managed 6 points during aT, while Summit could only come up with 4 resulting in the final 45 - 47 score at the end, putting Summit 7 and 6 going into the new year.
Scoring for Summit in the Deary contest: Joseph Lustig - 2, Dustin Lustig - 7, Johnson - 14, Prigge - 18, Nuxoll - 4, and Frei - O.
Next action for Summit is Highland away on Tuesday, and Pullman Christian away on Thursday.

Summit girls take 2nd at CV Tourney
Traveling to Clearwater Valley between Christmas and New Year's resulted in a win and a loss for Summit girls last week, as they took a relatively easy win over Potlatch the first night, 49 to 39, only to run into a tenaciously pressing host CV in the championship round, resulting in a 51 to 23 loss, only the Patriots second loss of the season.
In the Potlatch opener Summit took leads of 13 - 9, 29 - 14, and 39 - 28
at the quarter breaks, then closed at 49 to 39 with subs playing much of
the fourth quarter. Scoring for Summit: Jamie Chmelik - 2, Savannah
Kuther - 4, Rachel Wemhoff - 6, Kim Frei - 10, Savanah Prigge - 20,
and Tara Stubbers - 7. Frosh Nicole Frei, Courtney Schwartz, and
soph Vicki Schlader also played in the game, but were unable to score.
The championship round the second night proved to be a different story however, as host CV came out blazing, taking a 21 to 5 lead at the quarter built around fast break opportunities stemming from Summit turnovers. Scoring over the last three quarters was more balanced as follows, Summit first: 7 - 8, 8 -14, and 3 - 8 in the final as Patriot shots continually rolled off the rim. Summit scoring during the contest: Chmelik - 8, Wemhoff8, Frei - 5, Nicole Frei - 1, and Prigge - 1.
With the loss, Summit's record closes at 10 and 2, with games against Pullman Christian next Thursday, and Deary JV's Saturday, both away kicking off the new year.
