Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

To the Editor,
You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot five to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half get the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.” Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931-2005, Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, TN.

Take a stand for the pre-born
FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act) is a proposed national law before Congress (H.R. 1964 and S. 1163) that would remove all state and local restrictions on abortion, mandating that abortion would be treated no differently than any health service. President Obama has promised Planned Parenthood that he will sign it into law as soon as it reaches his desk.
Here is a partial picture of the United States under FOCA:  religiously affiliated hospitals would be forced to either perform abortions or stop providing health care; the Partial Birth Abortion Ban would be reversed; parental notification laws would be nullified (no pregnant girl however young would have to tell her parents she was getting an abortion); informed consent laws would be overturned (women would not have to be given accurate medical facts about their abortion procedure); medical personnel that conscientiously object to abortion would no longer be protected from lawsuits if they caused an inconvenience to the woman seeking an abortion.
You can check out more information about FOCA at www.FOCAfacts.com. If you think this would be a bad law, educate yourself and others, and by all means contact your U.S. Representatives and Senators, asking them to vote against it.
It's time to take a stand for the pre-born children!
