New board member sworn in
Pat Alfrey was sworn in as the newest school board member at their regular July meeting Monday, July 13. This was a week earlier than normal due to the fact that superintendent Gary Blaz wouldn’t be able to attend on the regular date.
Outgoing board member Kellie Bruner was presented a plaque for her hard work and dedication to the District.
Roy Schumacher was re-elected as board chairman with Della Gehring elected as vice-chair.
Denise Uhlenkott was approved as treasurer while school secretaries Judy Forsman, Amy Sigler and Lynn Rehder were approved a assistant treasurers so that they could handle the respective student body funds.
Hot lunch prices were set with Elementary and Middle School prices to go up 10 cents each to $1.50 and $1.60 respectively while the high school rate will jump 25 cents to $2. Adult rates will go up to $3.25.
Bus rental rate is currently $3.50 and it was voted to leave it as is. Per diem and facility use rates were also kept the same.
Lynn Rehder presented the annual food service report to the board.
It was approved to call for bids for repairing the high school roof. The District received insurance funds to help cover costs.
They are also looking at redoing the high school gym floor by pulling it up and replacing it. No asbestos was found in the floor and there are 5 companies interested in this project. It was approved to call for bids.
They will set a special meeting to open bids for the high school roof and gym floor and also to have a discussion on extracurricular travel.
In administrative reports Rene’ Forsmann reported that the middle school staff met on June 23 to work on schedules, go over ISAT scores and work with updated grading software. On July 2 NICI crew worked on trimming around the football field and worked on the current baseball field.  On July 13-17 the Middle School teachers who teach math are attending a special course. Also CompuNet started on the wiring project at the middle school on July 13.
Blaz reported the elementary staff will be attending the math training next week.
He also reported the summer lunch program has been averaging about 60 students.
The board meeting adjourned at 9:22 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, August 17 at 7 p.m.
