Summit jr. high girls finish 15-5
With the junior high boys season up and running, Summit’s junior high girls move into temporary rest mode as they look back over a season of 15 wins and 5 losses, and look ahead to the annual Hallissey Tournament held in Boise each year.  That tourney coming after the new year break, the girls will only resume practice in 2010.  Last year, Summit girls finished third in the tourney, losing by one point only on a 3-shot in the last half minute to the eventual tourney winners, honing their desire to win it all this year!
Members of this year’s team which posted a 7-2 record in the preliminary “7th” grade games, and an 8-3 record in the second “8th” grade game: 6th graders Ashlee Stubbers, Jolene Chmelik, and Kaitlen Stubbers; 7th graders Kayla Schumacher and Megan Seubert, and 8th graders Kayla Duclos, Nicole Wemhoff, Abby Chmelik, Megan Rehder, Sarah Kuther, Sarah Chmelik, and Rachael Frei.  Coaching the girls this year and several in the past, Mrs. Julie Schumacher.
The five losses this year, all fairly close, were to Grangeville for both teams, CV for the seventh graders, and Kamiah and Prairie in the 8th grade contests.
With the junior high girls’ season on temporary hold, the boys at that level swing into action this week with games Tuesday this week at Highland, and Thursday at Grangeville.  Meanwhile the girls’ high school season also starts with a bang, as they travel Friday to New Meadows for their annual Kick Off Tourney, Summit girls scheduled to play Council in the first game, with winners and losers playing Saturday for the championship and third place in the tourney.  Summit girls won the tourney last year, and are looking forward to the chance to repeat.  Pete Prigge is back again as the girls’ coach.
