concert at Monastery
The Sisters at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho, invite the public to join them for a FREE concert in the Monastery chapel on June 20, 2:30-4:00 pm, 465 Keuterville Road. This special event will feature professional musicians Rob and Jill Terhaar Lewis from South Carolina.
Soprano Jill Terhaar Lewis is a native of Greencreek, Idaho and a Metropolitan Opera National Council District Winner and Regional Finalist. She is an Assistant Professor of Vocal Music at Charleston Southern University and maintains a private studio.
Saxophonist/composer/educator Robert Lewis is enjoying a growing presence in the jazz community of the South. In demand as an artist and clinician, Robert performs over 200 times a year, both as a leader and as a sideman. He is also the Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Charleston, balancing his career between performance and education.
The concert will also feature outstanding local violinist Carletta Allen and flutist Novice Wendy Olin each accompanied by Sister Cecile Marie Uhlorn. Noted vocalist Laurie Karel will perform with Jill Terhaar Lewis.
Sr. Clarissa Goeckner, Prioress, explains, “Having Jill and Rob here to celebrate Jill’s parents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary was too great an opportunity not to invite them to share their talent with us. We believe concert attendees will be well entertained by the variety of traditional, religious, jazz, classical and ballad melodies woven into a fun afternoon by all these talented performers.”
Spirit Center at the Monastery of St. Gertrude is initiating an Arts and Spirituality Program this fall. A primary purpose of this Program is, through collaboration with others, “to foster an artistic environment and be present to the many manifestations of beauty in our world and to nurture new artistic possibilities.”
The June 20 concert at the Monastery will be a prelude to the upcoming Arts and Spirituality Program events.
