Triathlon set for August 20-21
It’s time to don that swimsuit, gear up your bike and lace those running shoes for the upcoming 4th Annual Camas Prairie Sprint Triathlon.  The youth tri will be held Friday evening, August 20 and the adult tri is scheduled for Saturday morning, August 21st in Grangeville.Christine Hauger-Knight shows Gary McEwen, Grangeville PT, the correct alignment for the bike portion of the 4th Annual Camas Prairie Triathlon on August 20-21 in Grangeville.
Both triathlons feature a swim, a bike ride and a run.  The youth component begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with race distances depending upon the age of the participant.  Their races begin at the Grangeville city pool and continue in the three blocks south of the pool.  The $20 entry fee includes a T-shirt.  Prizes will be plentiful.
The adult component begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning with a 300 yard swim or 12 lengths of the city pool; an eight mile bike ride past the cemetery, Airport Road to Luke’s Gulch Road and back; then ending with a three mile run past the Drive In and back again.  The $30 registration fee also includes a T-shirt.
Adult athletes can either do all three legs or teams can be formed with two or three people completing the three legs.  Team registration is $60/team.
“We’ve designed the sprint triathlon so either the serious athlete can enter or a family that wants to encourage sports and activities for their children can train and enter together,” said Gary McEwen, PT, one of the race organizers.  “We want it to be as fun and as challenging as each competitor wants it to be.”
A triathlon training clinic was held earlier this summer featuring Christine Hauger-Knight, a professional athlete.  “Virtually anyone can participate in this triathlon, but everyone should follow some basic training rules so they are in shape when they are at the starting line,” said Knight-Hauger who also helps manage Groaner’s Fitness.
The triathlon is sponsored by Grangeville Physical Therapy; Groaner’s Fitness; St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics and the University of Idaho Extension Service as part of the Our Health Our Community series of lectures and events to promote physical fitness.
Advance registration is preferred, but same day registration is also accepted.  Please call Grangeville PT, 935-2241 or Groaners Fitness, 983-7070 to pre register and name your T-shirt size.
