Summit girls lose 3 matches
The last week proved to be an exciting one for Summit volleyballers, but did not look so good on paper, as the local girls played hard but dropped three consecutive White Pine League matches during that time.
Playing at Genesee last Thursday, the Patriots took on the White Pine League leaders in three exciting games, but fell 16-25, 13-25, 13-25 to their hosts who told us they had not lost a league match in two years. Though on the losing end, the Patriots took much satisfaction in the quality of play for the evening, and were very appreciative of getting a chance to play last years’ state champs.
Clearwater Valley was here on Thursday, a night the Patriots honored their only two seniors, Jamie Chmelik and Rachel, Wemhoff. It proved to be another competitive match, though once again the Patriots went down in three by scores of 19-25, 23-25 and 19-25. Once again, a few miscues here and there, and a botched served proved to be the undoing of the young Patriots.
Saturday, Summit traveled to Potlatch, missing two players away on a family meeting in Montana, and using another two ho had been in Seattle for the weekend, a short-handed Patriot squad managed to win 2 of three from the Potlatch jayvees , then took easy first two game victories before dropping the next two and the final 15-point tiebreaker to the host Loggers. Scores were unavailable, but all three final losses were close and involved a lot of shuffling of Patriot players from the jayvee to the varsity and vice-versa as the three game jayvee and five game varsity matches put Summit up against the seven game limit for players each night. As a result, several frosh ended up playing the final 15-point match, and played well, but not enough to pull out a victory over a team they had defeated earlier.
Nezperce, Lapwai and Timberline remain on the Patriot schedule, all away, before District 2, Division II competition starts somewhat later, to be hosted again this year by league champion Nezperce.
