7 earn straight A's at Summit
Officials at Summit Academy recently released their first quarter honor roll and perfect attendance figures with the following students listed on one or the other high school lists:
Seven students managed a perfect 4.00 or straight A average for the quarter: senior Rachel Wemhoff, juniors Nicole Frei, Savanah Prigge and David Waters and freshmen Sarah Chmelik, Alexandria Rockwell and Michael Waters.
Achieving high honor status with a grade point average of 3.75 or better were junior Derek Nuxoll, sophomore Kody Duclos and freshmen Abby Chmelik, Kayla Duclos, Rachael Frei, Megan Rehder and Nicole Wemhoff.
Averaging 3.5 to 3.74 for honor status were juniors Austin Chmelik, Michael Rehder and Courtney Schwartz and freshman Matthew Schwartz.
Perfect attendance honors for the quarter went to senior Rachel Wemhoff and juniors Nicole Frei, Savanah Prigge and David Waters.
Sophomore and freshmen earning perfect attendance were Brooke Schumacher, Dan Wemhoff, Abby Chmelik, Nicole Wemhoff, Megan Rehder and Matthew Schwartz.


Summit girls win Meadows Valley Tip-Off Tourney
Traveling to New Meadows for the host school's Tip-off Tourney, Summit’s Lady Patriots walked away with the tourney championship for the 3rd consecutive year with victories over Garden Valley Friday and host school Meadows Valley last Saturday.
Seniors Jamie Chmelik and Rachel Wemhoff played significant roles in the current tourney as they have done in the past three years, suffering only a 31 to 27 loss in the championship game their frosh year.
In the opening game against Garden Valley, Summit roared out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and established leads of 18-6 at halftime, 32-16 at the three quarter break and 43-29 at the end as Summit subs saw a lot of action in the 2nd and 4th quarters.
The scoring and rebounding effort was led by junior Savanah Prigge with 22 points and 14 boards while point and board stats for the remainder of the team are as follows: Jamie Chmelik 5-7, Nicole Frei 4-4, Sarah Chmelik 2-4, Rachel Wemhoff 4-5 and Brooke Schumacher 6-4. Subs Kayla Duclos, Rachael Frei, Nicole Wemhoff and Cassidy Stubbers also saw action but did not contribute to the scoring.
Rachel Wemhoff led the assists effort with 8 and also led in steals with 3. Jamie Chmelik added 3 assists and Prigge had 1.
For the evening the Patriots shot 35% from the field and 63% from the foul line, netting 5 of 8 in that area.
Taking the floor against host Meadows Valley Saturday, winners over Council in the Friday prelims, Summit blitzed the net for 26 points in the 1st quarter while holding Meadows Valley to 6, the result of a stifling press by the Patriots. With subs playing a major role the rest of the game the score at the half was 40-11, 51-18 after 3 quarters and 53-24 at the end. Scoring and rebounding records for the evening were well spread and follow: Jamie Chmelik 6-2, Nicole Frei 2-4, Kayla Duclos 0-0, Rachael Frei 2-0, Sarah Chmelik 6-6, Rachel Wemhoff 4-2, Nicole Wemhoff 0-1, Cassidy Stubbers 2-1, Abi Chmelik 0-2, Brooke Schumacher 10-5, Savanah Prigge 19-7 and Megan Rehder 2-0.
Rachel Wemhoff led in assists and steals with 9 and 8 while Nicole Frei added 3 assists and 3 steal. Prigge also added 3 assists.
For the evening the Patriots shot a torrid 46 and 71% from the floor and line.
Next action for the Patriots is an away game with Division II Nezperce on Tuesday, Dec. 3 and a joint boys/girls away game with Timberline Monday, Nov. 29, also Division II matchups. That game marks the debut for the Summit boys who will travel to New Meadows later for the boys Kickoff Tourney.

Summit Jr. High boys are 3-1
A third of the way through their junior high season, Summit boys playing two games away  tandwo at home have each won three of their first four games with both teams taking wins from C.V. at home 20-10 in the first game and 52-23 in the second “eighth” game.
Then followed a trip to Grangeville Elementary where both teams fell to the hosts 39-30 in the first game and 49-38 in the second. In the second game the Patriots were unable to stop a very tall and talented Michael Wilson who scored 35 of the Bulldogs 49 points. Josh Lustig and Rhett Schlader led the Patriot scoring effort in this game as they had in the CV contest, with other teammates adding scores along the way.
At Kamiah for games three, the first game proved to be a thriller as the Summit boys edged Kamiah in overtime 29-25 while their older teammates ran away with a 35-16 win over the host Kubs. Again 8th graders Lustig and Schlader led the scoring effort with an additional 14 points added by other Patriots.
Back at Summit for games four, the local boys took two hard-fought win from the taller Orofino boys, winning the first game by a narrow 27-24 margin while the second game saw the local boys pull away in the fourth to prevail 41 to 32. Dean Stubbers, Josh Lustig and Rhett Schlader who had a game high 17 led the scoring effort.
Next action for the Patriots are away games at Lapwai, Sts. Peter & Paul and Asotin on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and 2.
