Lady Patriots win 2 of 3
Summit Lady Patriots closed out a busy week last week, winning two games from White Pine League opponents, Kendrick and Genesee, but then dropping a tough game against last year’s state champions, Clearwater Valley.
Playing at Kendrick last Tuesday, Summit roared out to quarter break scores of 9-4, 20-12 and 26-23 and closed out their first White Pine League game by a final score of 36-29. Again, the Patriots had a tough time at the foul line, netting only 4 of 11 shots for a 38% shooting percentage, but did hit on a respectable 41% from the field.
Scoring and rebounding for the Patriots: Jamie Chmelik 2-7, Nicole Frei 4-3, Rachel Wemhoff 9-9, Brooke Schumacher 7-0 and Savanah Prigge 14-14. Wemhoff had 7 of Summit’s 9 assists in the game and added 2 steals while Schumacher had 3 steals and Chmelik had 2. Daryl Kerby led the Kendrick scoring effort with 13.
Summit jayvees pounded Kendrick 24-6 in their two quarter preliminary to raise their record for the year to 2-0.
Thursday found the Patriots at Genesee for a single varsity game, and again the Patriots finished easily on top, with a final score of 50-31 with subs playing nearly one third of the game. Quarter scores for this contest were 15-7, 32-11 and 44-20. Again scoring and rebounding stats as follows: Jamie Chmelik 2-4, Nicole Frei 1-1, Kayla Duclos 0-0, Rachael Frei 2-3, Sarah Chmelik 2-2, Rachel Wemhoff 19-3, Nicole Wemhoff 2-1, Cassidy Stubbers 0-5, Abi Chmelik 2-1, Brooke Schumacher 0-2, Prigge 16-9, and Megan Rehder 4-2. The win raised the Summit record to 4 and 1 for the year with a perfect 2-0 in White Pine action to date.
Schumacher led the team in the steals department with 4, helped by Rachel Wemhoff’s 3 with several others recording 2 each. Wemhoff had 3 of Summit’s 12 assists to lead the team.
Saturday’s game versus CV played at Grangeville proved to be a different story for the Patriots however, as full-court pressing and aggressive defense by the Ram team kept Summit off balance just enough to drop their contest by a final score of 31-50. The outcome did not count in the league standings however as a second game is scheduled at C.V. on January 11.
Score by quarters in this matchup: 10-13, 19-25, 27-36. Fatigue and fouls played a significant role in the second half as CV continually subbed in fresh troops while Summit countered primarily with its five starters. Summit scoring and rebounding for the game: Jamie Chmelik 10-8, Nicole Frei 2-4, Sarah Chmelik 0-1, Rachel Wemhoff 9-3, Nicole Wemhoff and Cassidy Stubbers both in the game but 0-0, Schumacher 2-6 and Prigge 10-11. Wemhoff went to the bench in the fourth quarter with five fouls, the only casualty for either team in that department. CV netted five treys for the game, keeping the Rams out of reach.
In the prelim, the Summit jayvees ran their season record to 3-0 with a relatively easy win over CV. Scoring and rebounding was spread evenly over the seven Summit girls involved with only the five varsity starters not involved in the contest.
Next action for Summit are league away games for the girls at Troy Tuesday this week and Lapwai Thursday. Both JV and varsity will be playing both dates. Also Summit boys go into action for the first time this year, traveling to New Meadows Friday and Saturday for the annual Kickoff Tourney there.

The Summit Academy student body gathered around the  Advent Wreath. Advent preparations have begun at  Summit, beginning with  a  morning meditation around the advent wreath at prayer  time. The 5th-12th grade students participated in a half-day retreat and individual classes have separate campaigns going on in their rooms.  Advent angels and the Christmas Room are also all underway.  Finally, all families have been asked to pray for one other family during this time.
