Pirates win 10 of 12 matches at Potlatch dual
The Prairie wrestler team opened the season well as they won 10 of 12 matches wrestled at Potlatch Tuesday, Dec. 7.
Tyler Ross won his only match of the night, 14-0 over Heath Miller of Potlatch.
Alex Duman also won his only match of the night, a first period pin over Anthony Lott of Kamiah.
Tayler Heitman won his only match, 8-2 over Todd Marshall of Potlatch.
Kade Perrin wrestled twice and won both matches. He beat Ryan Simler of Kamiah 9-2 and Tanner Schwarts of Orofino by pin in the third period.
Damian McWilliams split his two matches, losing by pin to Kyle Ringen of Kamiah in the second period then defeating Dillon Johnson of Orofino by pin, also in the second period.
Garrett Schmidt won 2 of his 3 matches. He lost by pin to Ebbon Lane of Kamiah then defeated Lawrence Dana of Orofino 23-6 and won by pin over Gregg Camden of Clearwater Valley in the 3rd period.
Finally, Mitch Jungert won all 3 of his matches by pin. He pinned Brett Kunin of C.V. in the 1st period, Trevor Hopkins of Orofino in the 3rd period and Levi Miller of C.V in the 2nd period.

Pirates win team trophy at Potlatch Invitational
Five of seven wrestlers took first place in their weight class as the Prairie wrestling team won the team title at the Dick Griswold Invitational Tournament at Potlatch Saturday, Dec. 11.Tyler Ross rolls his opponent as he works toward a pin.
Prairie’s other two wrestlers also earned medals as the Pirate grapplers lost only 2 matches the entire day.
As a team Prairie totaled 85 points to beat out Pomeroy, who took second with 75 points.
Depending on how many wrestlers were in a weight class the winner was determined by either most wins in round-robin action or in a matchup between winners of two pods.
At 103 lbs. Tyler Ross won all three of this matches. He won by pin late in the first period over a McCall wrestler in his first match. In his second match he defeated a Wallace wrestler by pin in the first period. In his third match he had to go the distance as he wracked up points but couldn’t quite pin T. Morgan of Moscow, winning by technical fall 18-3.
At 112 lbs. Alex Duman also won all his matches. He defeated a Lakeland (of Rathdrum) wrestler by pin in the opening period within about 30 seconds. He dispatched of a Wallace wrestler in his second match also early in the first period. In his third match he pinned an Orofino wrestler, also in the first period. In the championship match he had to go into the second period to win by pin over M. Carey of Wallace.
At 119 lbs. Tayler Heitman also had a clean slate. He won his first match against a Moscow wrestler by pin in the first period. His second match took only about 20 seconds as he pinned a Wallace wrestler. He had a battle in his third match against C. Clark of McCall. He led 4-2 after one period, 9-4 after 2 and won by a 14-6 decision in what amounted to the championship match. His next match was against a Potlatch wrestler and he won by pin in the second period. In his final match he pinned a Lakeland wrestler in the first period.
Tayler Heitman is about to pin a Potlatch wrestler.At 130 lbs. Kade Perrin won all his matches. In his first match he won by pin in the second period over a Cascade wrestler. In his second match he took on a McCall wrestler and also won in the second period by pin. Against a Lakeland wrestler it took until the third period to win by pin. In the final round-robin match he won by pin in the final seconds of the match over a Moscow wrestler. In the championship match he won by pin in the second period over C. Evans of Colfax.
At 135 lbs. Damian McWilliams swept his round-robin matches but lost in the championship match and took second. In his opening match he won by pin in the first period over an Orofino wrestler. In his second match he again won by first period pin over a Lake City (Coeur d’Alene) wrestler. In his third match he went into the second period before pinning a Wallace wrestler. In the championship match he lost by pin in the first period to N. Tewalt of Pomeroy.
At 171 lbs. Garrett Schmidt lost a round-robin match but won the third place match to earn a medal. In his opening match he won by pin in the first period over a Lake City wrestler. In his second match he went up against defending state champion C. Clark of McCall and was pinned in the first period. In his third match he won by pin in the first period over a Lakeland wrestler which put him into the third place match. There he took on a Colfax wrestler and battled into the third period. He trailed 4-5 after the first and led 10-7 after the second period. He started in the up position in the third period and was able to quickly turn his opponent and pin him to earn a third place medal.
At heavyweight Mitch Jungert sailed through his matches. He defeated an Orofino wrestler by pin in the first period in his opening match. In his second match he did the same thing to a Moscow wrestler. He repeated that in the third round against a Wallace wrestler. In his fourth match it took a little longer but he again won by pin in the first period. In the championship match he wasted little time as he took B. Wilburn of Wallace down and pinned him early in the first period.
