'Come to the Quiet' retreat set
As the din of holiday celebrations fade into the snowy grace of the New Year, the team of spiritual directors at Spirit ‘Come to the Quiet’ at the MonasteryCenter ready for the upcoming “Come to the Quiet” retreat. It is a time when the entire certified spiritual direction staff is on hand to journey with those seeking a peaceful time of reflection.
“It is a quiet place in a noisy world,” says Sister Lillian Englert, retreat facilitator and certified spiritual director. She helped create the “Come to the Quiet” retreat in response to requests for individually-directed retreat experiences.
While each person has an encounter with silence, they are not necessarily alone. “Everybody is scared of quiet,” explains Sister Lillian. “That’s why this retreat is in a group so there is support for one another.”
But she is quick to emphasize that each retreat experience is different from the others. Each person chooses an individual theme and goes at her own pace with her own spiritual director. A person’s retreat may also include faith sharing, creative expression, body prayer and ritual. “No two retreat experiences are alike,” she says.
Participants may engage in the full week retreat, January 21-28, or weekend-only: January 21-23. “Come to the Quiet” takes place at Spirit Center in Cottonwood, Idaho. The retreat center overlooks the Camas Prairie and is home to the Benedictine Sisters of the Monastery of St. Gertrude.
