Blood drive set for Tuesday
The American Red Cross is asking people to give blood in February in honor of two great historical leaders of Red Cross Blood Services, Dr. Charles Drew and Dr. Jerome Holland.
Cottonwood will hold their next Blood Drive February 1st from noon to 6:00pm.
Dr. Drew, the director of the first Red Cross blood bank, was an outstanding scholar who became known as the father of modern blood banking. Dr. Holland, chairman of the Red Cross Board of Governors from 1979 until 1985, was a strong proponent of the Red Cross’s involvement in biomedical research, now a $20 million a year research and development program. The world-renowned Holland Research Laboratory is named in his honor.
Not only will your blood donation honor the memory of these leaders in modern blood banking, but it also will help maintain a stable blood supply for patients that often need frequent blood transfusions to survive.
February is a perfect time for new donors to consider giving the gift of life, and for current donors to renew their commitment to regular donation. Red blood cells have a shelf life of only 42 days, and the supply constantly needs to be replenished.  This year, you can make a difference. All it takes is your willingness to help someone in need and a pint of your blood. On behalf of the hospital patients who may need blood, we thank you.
Any healthy person age 17 or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. Valid identification is required for all blood donations.
All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment to donate blood by calling either Brenda Kaschmitter at 962-3251 or Cheri Holthaus at 962-2327
