Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

To the Editor:
Who said this, “I don’t believe in a government that protects us from our selves.”  The answer is:  Ronald Reagan.  He realized that the federal government should not grasp all power.  He tried to plush power back down to the states and the local governments, but more importantly, he worked to push power away from the government.  One of his greatest campaign slogans was “Get government off the backs of the people and out of their pocket books as well.”
He made us proud to be Americans. He showed us it was ok to be strong.
On Saturday March 5th there will be a Lincoln Day and Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration Dinner; it begins at 6:00 p.m. It will be held at the Cottonwood Community Hall.  Tickets may be purchased at the door.  We will honor Ronald Reagan and also hear from seven elected Republicans; these include the Commissioners, serving Idaho County, and all three District 8 representatives in the State Legislature.  It is also hoped that newly elected Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador will be present. These Idahoans will bring us up to speed on the county, state and US Congress.
