From the school board and administrators
Patrons of District 242
As our governor and superintendent of public instruction continue to work on budgets for the upcoming year, it leads us to formulate a budget of our own with the information they are sharing with our districts.  Cottonwood School District will see an approximately 8.6% decrease in state dollars for the 2011-2012 school year.  This amounts to approximately $194,475.  The table below gives patrons details of the support we have seen over the past 5 years and the decrease we currently will be dealing with.
Budgets      Overall (State, Grants)       Support from the State
06-07                $3,296,973                      $2,375,277
07-08                $3,336,885                      $2,783,370
08-09                $3,471,376                      $2,873,405
09-10                $3,191,811                      $2,657,223
10-11                $3,016,120                      $2,447,091
11-12 Projected $2,976,005                     $2,252,616
Even with the funding decrease, our goal is to maintain our programs, our activities, and find ways to better serve our children and community.  We believe our school system is one of the best in the state and is the hub of most of our community activities.  With the continued support of the patrons in our communities, we will be asking for a $395,000 levy for the upcoming year.  This will raise the 2011-2012 payment by approximately .91 per $1,000 or $91 per $100,000 of assessed value. (This is a yearly amount.)  We are trying to keep the levy as closely in line with previous levy amounts while maintaining the integrity of our district.
Past Levies
2011 - $395,000   $2.94 per $1,000
2010 - $275,000   $2.03 per $1,000
2009 - $150,000   $1.12 per $1,000
2008 - $208,000   $1.62 per $1,000
2007 - $198,000   $1.74 per $1,000
2006 - $209,000   $1.89 per $1,000
2005 - $239,000   $2.20 per $1,000
It is our goal to keep the public informed.  We have designed pamphlets that explain our programs and outline the need for your support.  The pamphlets will be distributed around town.  We will continue to update the public through newspaper articles and emails to those who want to receive information in that format.  Please call our administration and/or our board members for answers to your questions.  Come in and visit the superintendent at anytime.
