Lady Pirates lose at Orofino
A 2-run double in the fifth was the difference as the Prairie Lady Pirates lost 1-3 at Orofino Thursday, April 21.Haleigh Schmidt makes a headfirst slide into second to avoid the tag on a stolen base attempt.
The game was originally scheduled for Cottonwood but was moved to Orofino due to field conditions although Orofino still served as the home team.
Prairie scored first as Savanah Prigge drew a 2-out walk in the top of the first inning. She stole second and scored when Haleigh Schmidt’s bloop single dropped in right field.
Unfortunately that was to be Prairie’s only run of the game as Orofino’s pitcher gave up just 5 hits and struck out 14 while walking 4.
Megan Sigler pitched well also although she also allowed a first inning run as a single, walk and an error led to a run for the Maniacs.
Both teams matched zeros for the next 3 innings.
In the bottom of the fifth a walk, single and double led to 2 runs for Orofino as they took their first lead of the game.
Prairie tried to respond in the fifth as Kendra Dinning drew a 1-out walk and went to second on a wild pitch but 2 strikeouts got Orofino out of the inning.
In the seventh Mackenzie Rieman led off with a single to left but got forced out at second by Monica Lustig. Lustig stole second and went to third on Megan Sigler’s groundout but the game ended when Tanna Schlader’s deep fly ball was caught in centerfield.
Sigler allowed 3 runs on just 4 hits with 4 walks, 2 hit batters and 9 strikeouts.
Schlader, Schmidt, Meaghan Bruner, Rieman and Lustig each had a single in the game.
