4x400 team wins state title
The Prairie track team brought home 6 state medals highlighted by the girls 4x400 team placing first at the State Track Meet at Boise May 20-21.
The team of Keely Schmidt, Claire Whitley, Shelby VonBargen and MaKayla Schaeffer won with a time of 4:17.52 beating their best time of the season by about 8 seconds and missing out on the school record by only 2 seconds.
The same group also took second place in the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:50.69 which is also only 2 second shy of the school record. With all 3 sophomores and a junior making up the team they’ll have a good shot at the school records next year.
Schaeffer also had 2 individual second place finishes as she was second in the triple jump with a mark of 33’10” and second in the long jump with a mark of 16’5”.
Brock Heath earned the other two state medals with a 2nd place finish in the 1600 in 4:42.86 and third in the 3200 in 10:15.72.
Josh Roeper placed 15th in the boys shot put at 35’¼”.
Josh Zigler placed 14th in the boys discus at 107’1”.
Demetria Riener placed 15th in the girls shot put with a mark of 28’3½”.
The boys medley team of Josh Roeper, Dakota Wilson, Justin Schmidt and Heath placed 7th in a time of 3:55.77.
In the team standings the girls team tied for 8th place with 34 points while the boys team tied for 17th with 16 points.
