Schnider is employee of the month
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her without a huge smile.  She greets patients, their families and our staff with such kindness.  She makes St. Mary’s a happier place to work,” said one of Cindy Schnider’s co-workers. Cindy Schnider is the employee of the month at St. Mary’s Hospital.
In October, Cindy will be celebrating five years employment in the Dietary Department.  Prior to joining the SMHC staff she worked at the Cottonwood Cash and Carry in the deli department and as a checker.  She had the same job in Wallace where she lived for about ten years before moving back to this area.
“I was born in Grangeville, the youngest of six children, and graduated from Grangeville High School.  While in Wallace I also worked in a local restaurant.  The area reminded me here because of its community pride and participation,” said Cindy. “After my son graduated from high school in 2002 I moved back to be close to family and to get back to the prairie I really missed.”
Her job responsibilities include stoking the vending machines, catering meals within the facility, making cookies and pizza, monitoring the coffee airpots and “a thousand other things.”  In addition to her work tasks, she also volunteers on the hospital’s customer service team where she proposed the creation of a bookshelf for patients, family members and staff.  The free ‘library’ is located in the hospital’s reception area by the front door. “I had a family member who was hospitalized unexpectedly and I had nothing to read, so I thought others might be in that same position,” said Cindy.  She can also be seen at the Relay for Life each year making lattes to raise money for cancer research.  “She does so much for everyone else,” said her nomination form.
Cindy’s son, Mike, is now 28.  She is married to Eugene Schnider and has tons of cousins, aunts and uncles who live in the area.  When she is not working she enjoys reading, gardening, family, friends and music.
“I like being helpful and making others lives a little easier.  I like a job well done and I think team work is very important. It’s easy to be friendly when working with such great co-workers and the public.  I have found throughout life that I enjoy my family, friends and a small town atmosphere,”  said Cindy.
“I rely on Cindy’s smile to brighten each day,” said another co-worker.
