Youth ministry September events
Dear Youth in Christ,
During this time of year, it is so easy to long for the continued warmth of summer with all its freedom and fun, but with every season the ending draws near as the invitation to the next season appears. Good-byes are never easy, however they always bring with them an opportunity for newness and change. It is here that the Youth Ministry process invites you on a new journey of faith where you will learn to meet God and community through faith sharing, prayer worship, fun, friendship, song and of course food.
We will begin our journey with a movie night at the OMG (On Mighty Ground youth room) at 8 p.m. on Sept. 2nd for Jr. High and High School youth. Following the movie we will attend Adoration at St. Mary’s Church at 10 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you to spend “one on one” time with Jesus, without cell phones, computers or interruptions. You may be surprised at how much difference this time can make in your life.
On Wednesday, Sept. 7th the H.S. Peer Ministers will meet at the OMG at 7 p.m. to discuss plans for the school year. We will have pizza at 6 p.m. If you were a Peer Minister last year, please plan on attending this meeting.
On Sept. 8th the Tri-Parish Choir will meet at the OMG at 7 p.m. to practice for the upcoming Youth Mass. Please bring your music folders.
On Sept. 10th and 11th the High School youth will be raising money for Catholic Relief Services and World Vision through the process of fasting for 30 hours. All Fasters will meet at the Keuterville Hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday the 10th and fast until 10 a.m. on the 11th. On the 11th they will attend the Youth Mass at St. Mary’s Church. Following the Mass everyone is invited to join them for lunch in the Sacred Hart room as they end the Fast. If you would like to sponsor a youth or contribute to this cause, they will be taking a collection after the 5 p.m. Mass in Ferdinand and after the 10 a.m. Mass in Cottonwood. Your donations will go toward helping the needy of the world and will send a message of your personal pledge of solidarity to our youth who have chosen to spend their weekend fasting for the good of another. Thank you for your support.
On Monday, Sept. 12th the adult leadership planning team will meet at the OMG at 7 p.m. Our focus will be to plan and implement adult help for the youth ministry process and activities for the school year. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated. Any adult who is interested in helping with the Youth Ministry please join us. Our program has really grown and your help is greatly needed. If I have called you and you plan on attending, thank you for your willingness to participate in this worthwhile ministry too and with our young people!
On Sept. 14th the YWCA will be presenting its first of three sessions on “Healthy Teen Relationships.” This session will be held at St. Mary’s in the Sacred Heart Room at 7 p.m. All Jr. High and High School youth are invited and encouraged to attend.
Our Youth Ministry Team will host a Back to School Bash in the St. Mary’s parking lot following the Sept. 16th boys football game. We will have food, drinks, fire and an opportunity for everyone to gather in the spirit of the community. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. (Angela Seubert is cooking so you know it’s going to be good!)
On Wednesday, Sept. 21st all Confirmation youth who will be receiving the Sacrament this year, and their parents are asked to attend a meeting in the Sacred Heart Room at St. Mary’s Church at 7 p.m. Confirmation expectations for 2011-2012 will be addressed.
On Tuesday, Sept. 27th the TWCA will be presenting its first of three adult sessions on teen dating abuse. Parents and community members are invited and encouraged to attend. The session will be at Assumption Hall at 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
On Wednesday, Sept. 28th our small group high school session (Theology of the Body) will meet to discuss this year’s school curriculum. We will gather at the OMG at 6 p.m. Softball from 6-7 p.m., pizza from 7-7:30 p.m., session from 7:30-8:30. All high school youth are invited!
Yes with each new season we move, change and grow. It is in the midst of the experiences of life we are given opportunities and invitations to become all that God wants us to be. I am honored that I can be a part of this journey and look forward to our time together in this new season of your life!
In faith filled newness,
Debbie Chicane
Tri-Parish Catholic Youth Coordinator
