Summit girls lose in 4 to Kamiah
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots lost a home match against Kamiah 21-25, 26-24, 20-25, 24-26 last Tuesday, Summit’s Kayla Schumacher spikes the ball pasta Kamiah blocker. Watching are Nicole Frei and Brooke Schumacher.Sept. 20 at the Prairie High School gym.
All four games were close and hard-fought and with a break or two going their way Summit could’ve won the match.
The first game was close all the way with Summit’s only lead coming at 1-0 after a kill by Kayla Schumacher. Kamiah quickly made it 1-4 but Summit was able to tie it at 8-8 but couldn’t take the lead. 
They were able to tie the game 3 more times but each time Kamiah would keep them from taking the lead.
In the second game Kamiah again took an early lead of 3-8. Summit was able to pull within 1 at 12-13 after an ace by Nicole Wemhoff but Kamiah then reeled off 7 straight to take a 12-20 lead and it looked like they would win easily.
Summit fought back though with Rachael Frei scoring the kill to end Kamiah’s run. 2 aces by Kayla Schumacher, a stuff block by Savanah Prigge and another kill by Rachel Frei had Summit back within 3 at 17-20.
Kamiah was able to get it to game point at 20-24 but a stuff block by Prigge followed by 2 aces and a spike dig for a kill also by Prigge tied the game at 24. A dink for a kill be Brooke Schumacher gave Summit a game point chance and they cashed in as Kamiah was called for an under the net violation.
The third game saw Kamiah put together a 7 point run to take a 5-11 lead and later a 5 point run to make it 14-21 as they eventually pulled out a 5-point win.
In the fourth game it went back and forth all they way as Kamiah fought to end the match while Summit tried to force a deciding fifth game. Summit led 11-9 but Kamiah then scored 5 straight to take an 11-14 lead.
Summit came right back to tie it at 14 and the score was tied again at 15, 16 and 17.
Consecutive stuff blocks by Prigge and 2 aces by Rachael Frei gave Summit a 21-17 lead.
Kamiah came back to tie it at 23 before a tip for a kill by Kayla Schumacher set Summit up with a game point chance at 24-23.
Kamiah though came up with 3 straight kills to end the match.
Prigge had 26 kills in the match including 5 stuffs, and 2 aces. Kayla Schumacher had 16 kills including 3 stuffs and 2 aces.
Brooke Schumacher had 4 kills and 15 assists. Nicole Frei had 5 kills, 14 assists and 2 aces. Rachael Frei had 3 kills and 4 aces while Nicole Wemhoff had 3 kills and 5 aces.
The JV team won all three games, no scores available.
