Fatal crash near Cottonwood
A 3-vehicle accident south of Cottonwood on U.S. Highway 95 took the life of a local woman last Wednesday, Sept. 28.
Elaine L. Crea, 62, of Grangeville was driving north on Highway 95 in a 2002 Chrysler 300 at about 5:30 p.m. and was attempting to turn on Gulch Rd.  Jessica Enneking, age 25, of Cottonwood, was following Crea in a 1998 Mercury Mystic and was slowing down. Charles E. Sumner, age 75, of Clarkston, driving a 2004 Peterbilt tractor and trailer impacted the rear of Enneking’s vehicle and it was pushed out into the field off the highway. Then Sumner’s vehicle impacted Crea’s vehicle on the driver’s side and pushed the car down the highway. Both Crea’s and Sumner’s vehicles caught fire and were fully engulfed. Sumner was able to exit his vehicle but Crea was not and died at the scene.
Enneking and Sumner were both treated at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Investigating officer for the Idaho State Police was Tpr. Collins with assistance from Sgt. Doty, Cpl. Koopman, Tpr. Youngren and the Idaho County Sheriff’s Dept.
