8 currently out for wrestling
There are 8 grapplers currently turned out for the Prairie wrestling team with a ninth who may rejoin the team.
Coach Dan Altman has a lot of experience returning despite having no seniors on the squad.
Tyler Ross, Tayler Heitman, Kade Perrin, Alex Duman and Garrett Schmidt, all juniors, all qualified for state last year with Ross, Perrin and Duman earning state medals.
Damian McWilliams also qualified for state last year and earned a medal but is the 9th wrestler who is not currently practicing with the team although he may rejoin.
New to the team this season are Hunter McWilliams, Dally Ratcliff, both freshmen, and Joseph Halligan, a sophomore.
Coach Dan Altman said they’ve changed up many of the weight classes this year, adding a couple of new ones. Classes this year are 98 lbs., 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220 and heavyweight. New weight classes are the 98 lb. one and the addition of another weight class between 170 and 220. There used to be just a 189 lb. class.
The team will see their first action next Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the only home match of the season for the Pirates.
There are also a couple of changes to the schedule. The Moscow meet on Dec. 13 has been scratched and instead Prairie will be competing at Grangeville in the CIL duals.
Also the Pomeroy Tournament on Dec. 28 will be held at Pullman due to construction work at the Pomeroy school.

Prairie wrestling team members practiced takedowns Monday at their practice at the auxiliary gym. Their first action of the season will be Tuesday, Dec. 6 for their only home match of the season at the High School gym.
