Lady Pirates win at Grangeville
A shooting clinic it wasn’t but the Prairie Lady Pirates fueled by 3 first half 3-points by Megan Sigler outlasted Grangeville 39-27 to complete a season sweep of the Bulldogs.MeShel Rad battles for one of her 21 rebounds against Grangeville as Shelby VonBargen watches.
Prairie didn’t blister the nets hitting just 15 of 53 shots in the game, 28%, but they were on fire compared to Grangeville who was just 8 for 50, 16%, and had just 3 players score.
Sigler connected on two 3-pointers early to give Prairie a 6-0 lead and MeShel Rad added a basket inside to make it 8-0.
Grangeville finally got on the scoreboard at the 2:08 mark of the first quarter.
Prairie’s only basket in the final 3 minutes of the first quarter was a putback by Tanna Schlader as Grangeville pulled within 10-6 at the quarter break.
Sigler opened the second quarter with another 3-pointer but Grangeville outscored Prairie 2-8 over the next 2 minutes with 6 of those points coming at the free throw line.
Grangeville was able to pull within 15-14 with 5:33 left in the half but the scoring stalled there.
The score didn’t change on either side until the 1:50 mark when Schlader scored on the first of 2 free throws. She missed the second but Rad got the offensive rebound and scored to make it 18-14.
Schlader added a basket to make it 20-14 as Grangeville was held scoreless the final 5:33 of the first half.
Rad scored on a putback to open the second half scoring and give Prairie a 22-14 lead.
Grangeville was able to cut the lead down to 5 at 26-21 with 2:06 left in the third quarter but Prairie ended the quarter with a 6-0 run to push the lead to 11 at 32-21.
Rad scored a lay-up to start the run. MaKayla Schaeffer then made a nice drive to the hoop for a lay-up and go fouled. She missed the free throw but Rad again got the offensive rebound and scored.

Sigler wound up with 15 points to lead Prairie in scoring while Rad had 10 points and 21 rebounds. Schlader and Schaeffer scored 5 points each while Shelby VonBargen and Kendall Schumacher scored 2 each.
Prairie outrebounded Grangeville 47-38.
Sigler had 5 steals while Callie Mader and Schlader had 2 assists each.
Prairie was 6 for 11 at the line, 55%, while Grangeville was 9 for 19, 47%.
With the win Prairie goes into the Christmas break with a 10-2 record, 4-0 in league play. They don’t play again until January 3 when they host Highland.
The JV team also beat Grangeville winning 49-32.
Keely Schmidt scored 6 first quarter points and Leah Holthaus added a 3-pointer as Prairie took an 11-6 lead at the quarter break. 
Prairie scored the first 8 points of the second quarter and outscored Grangeville 12-2 in the period to take control.
Beka Bruner scored 4 points in the quarter while Schmidt, Abi Chmelik, Shaney Perrin and Ali Hoene added 2 each.
Schmidt added 5 points in the third quarter as Prairie extended their lead to 34-11 at one points. Grangeville scored the final 4 points of the quarter to make it 34-15 after 3 periods.
Grangeville broke loose for 17 points in the fourth quarter but Prairie didn’t lose much of their lead as they answered with 15.
Schmidt wound up as the high scorer with 13 points. Ali Hoene added 10 with 8 of those coming in the fourth quarter to help the Pirates hold off a Grangeville rally. Bruner scored 6, Holthaus 5, Chmelik and Daun Hoene 4 each, Emily McHugh 3 and Perrin and Natasha Gimmeson 2 each.
Grangeville had a slight edge on the boards of 37-39. Daun Hoene had 8 to lead Prairie with Chmelik adding 6 and Whitney Sonnen 4.
Schmidt and Holthaus had 6 steals and 4 assists each as Prairie forced Grangeville into 29 turnovers. Chmelik added 4 steals while Daun Hoene had 3.
Prairie was 21 for 53 from the field, 40%, and 7 for 21 at the line, 33%. Grangeville was 14 for 50 from the field, 28%, and 5 for 10 at the line, 50%.
