Wrestling team wins District title
The Prairie Wrestling Team won the Class 2A District I-II team title with 7 wrestlers earning state berths at the District Meet Saturday, Feb. 18 at Orofino.
Five of the 7 wrestlers to advance to state earned District championships..
Dally Ratcliff defeated teammate Tyler Ross in the championship match at 113 lbs. by a 7-5 decision. Both advance to the state meet. Ross was in his first action since an injury had sidelined him.
At 120 lbs. Hunter McWilliams took first place by defeating Jason Waters of Wallace by pin in the second period. Also at 120 lbs. Justin Ross qualified for state by pinning Bailey Ohlson of Orofino in the first round to earn third place.
At 126 lbs. Alex Duman won the district title with a first round pin of Mike Carey of Wallace.
At 138 lbs. Kade Perrin pinned Tanner Schwartz of Orofino in the second round to win the district title.
Finally at 195 lbs. Garrett Schmidt won the district title with a second period pin of Levi Miller of C.V.
As a team Prairie scored 118 points to edge our second place Orofino by 12 points.
The State Wrestling Tournament starts this Friday at 8:30 a.m. PST at Holt Arena in Pocatello. Brackets can be found online at idhsaa.org or idahowrestlingnews.com
