Prairie hosts 7th grade tournament
A 7-team invitational 7th grade volleyball tournament took place Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Prairie Elementary Gym.
The high school volleyball players assisted as refs, ticket-takers and helped with concessions as a fund-raiser.
After full round-robin play with two-game matches, Clearwater Valley placed first for the finals. Prairie #1 was seeded second, Timberline 3rd, and Prairie #2 as 4th. In the first round, CV defeated Prairie #2 and Prairie #1 defeated Timberline.
The second round saw Prairie #2 defeating Timberline for a 3rd place finish. Prairie #1 lost to C.V. in a close third game to finish 2nd.
The seventh grade volleyball roster usually sports 18 players, so the team was split into two teams with Cheryl Gehring and Marlene Forsmann coaching. This gave the girls plenty of playing time and a chance to build their skills, which was visible as the day progressed. A total of 16 games were played during the day.
We would like to thank the parents for their support, all the good food and their help cleaning up. A big thank you to Colleen Sonnen and Rene’ Forsmann for all the work manning the concessions and cleaning and to Jake Forsmann for all his help setting up and keeping things running smoothly. Thanks to the High School players for being there and doing their jobs with a special thank you to Cheryl Gehring for her commitment to the team helping at practices and coaching. Thanks to everyone’s help, the teams had the chance for a great day of volleyball.
